Glass NEWS: Glass Chips Could Make Internet-Connected Devices Smarter: a glass-based chip offers far greater computational power than traditional silicon-based chips. Glass-based chips will be small yet powerful enough to equip smart devices with server-grade processing power to significantly reduce the time it takes for them to make complex decisions. By reducing the burden on remote data centers, the glass-based chips will also have an environmental impact. The ongoing global silicon shortage that has driven up prices for computer hardware and also disrupted production in several sectors, most notably automobile manufacturing. The replacement of silicon-based semiconductors to in-fiber processing may drastically change the edge computing world, which can be as powerful as cloud farms and clusters for data-processing and computation [based on the article by Mayank Sharma on April 13, 2022, in Lifewire.com] #glass #chips #silicon #edge #computing #internet #InternetOfThings

Zeitgeist: Foreigners Everywhere Kunsthalle Glashuette Glashuette 1, Lamspringe 31195 DE June 12, 2024 – September 12, 2024 The connection between Baselitz’s "Zeitgeist" series and the Venice Biennale 2024 under the slogan "Foreigners Everywhere" lies in their shared exploration of identity, history, and the pervasive influence of the past on the present. Through this thematic convergence, Kunsthalle Glashuette’s exhibition not only commemorates a landmark moment in Baselitz’s oeuvre but also engages with pressing contemporary issues, making it a profound reflection on the human condition in an ever-changing world. The Lower Saxony connection between Baselitz’s Derneburg Castle and Kunsthalle Glashuette enriches this narrative, underscoring a regional continuity that bridges personal history with broader cultural and artistic discourses. Baselitz’s reflection on the inescapability of the Zeitgeist - where the era exerts a stronger influence on the individual than vice versa - serves as a poignant commentary on the artist’s entanglement with his national identity and history. This engagement is particularly important for us, as the artist lived and worked a mere 25 kilometers from (now) Kunsthalle Glashuette. Baselitz acquired the Derneburg Castle in the 1970s, transforming it into his residence and studio for approximately thirty years. This geographical and cultural proximity highlights a deeper connection between Baselitz’s creative milieu and the historical context of the Kunsthalle Glashuette, itself restored from a deteriorated Herrenhaus in Lower Saxony. https://lnkd.in/e2YgzxdJ

Well, Mr. Google says we had 546 virtual visitors last month. Welcome! Here is some info on the area where we are located: https://lnkd.in/ejYdKTF6 There is something familiar about these little towns tucked away in deep, wooded valleys. These were the scenes of childhood stories: the home of wicked witches, dwarves digging in caverns under the earth and poor woodcutters in lonely cottages. The Brothers Grimm collected their stories from various places, primarily the area around Kassel about 40 miles to the west, but the Harz Mountains have long been famous as an important source of German folklore. https://lnkd.in/esfDERii Many of these stories are well-known outside of Germany as well: Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, Sleeping Beauty, Rumpelstiltskin, Tom Thumb, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, The Frog Prince, and The Wolf and the Seven Kids. https://lnkd.in/eGH-eDjV Some of the tales seem not to have traveled outside of Germany. Curious to read some of the lesser-known Harz fairy tales? You can read a sampling of the fairy tales here. This region was also known for the many silver mines; many villagers made their living underground and the towns' wealth came from these mines. There are echoes of this in the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

In the realm of digital art, creators have long grappled with issues of copyright, ownership, and authentication. The ease of duplicating and sharing digital files has complicated matters, casting doubt on the true origin of artworks and undercutting the rights of their original makers. However, blockchain technology emerges as a transformative solution to these challenges. By its very nature, blockchain offers a secure and transparent framework for recording and verifying ownership. Once a digital artwork is registered on the blockchain, it becomes endowed with a digital certificate of authenticity. This not only dispels uncertainties surrounding its origin but also furnishes collectors with a transparent record of its provenance. Yet, the benefits of blockchain extend beyond mere authentication. Through the ingenious mechanism of smart contracts, creators and collectors alike find reassurance and fairness. These self-executing contracts, encoded with the terms of the agreement, ensure that artists receive their due royalties whenever their work changes hands. This equitable arrangement fosters a symbiotic relationship between creators and collectors, underpinned by transparency and trust. Blockchain enables artists to tokenize their digital creations, effectively transforming them into digital assets represented on the blockchain. These Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) allow collectors to acquire ownership stakes in the artwork, further enhancing its value and investment potential. Decentralized platforms, powered by blockchain, serve as marketplaces where artists and collectors can directly engage in the buying and selling of digital art. By circumventing traditional intermediaries, these platforms ensure that artists receive a more substantial share of the proceeds from their sales, empowering them in the digital art economy. In essence, blockchain revolutionizes the landscape of digital art, offering solutions to longstanding challenges while paving the way for a more transparent, equitable, and prosperous ecosystem for creators and collectors alike.
