What potential do modern plant breeding methods, such as genome editing, offer for greater climate resilience and food security? And what legislative developments can we anticipate from the European institutions on #NGTs? Our colleague Stefan Schwarz was part of a panel discussion at the World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit together with other industry experts. “We need to invest significantly in the further development of advanced gene-editing and breeding tools to realize the future possible potential,” he underlined. The event hosted by World Agri-Tech is one of the biggest European networking event. It brings together a great number of agricultural experts to discuss latest trends and findings on sustainability, climate resilience and innovation https://ow.ly/2cA550THwjW. #seedingthefuture #LetsTalkBreeding

In 2019, KWS announced its entry into the long-term growth market for #vegetableseeds. In addition to suitable acquisitions and the sale of licensed-in varieties, the company's strategic greenfield approach focuses on developing its own breeding activities for watermelon, melon, tomato, cucumber and pepper from scratch. Why did KWS decide to take this bold step and how far has the development of the business unit progressed? In an exclusive interview, Executive Board member Peter Hofmann sheds light on these questions as well as on other strategic topics. Agriculture in particular is struggling with prolonged periods of drought, while at the same time being the world’s leading user of the valuable resource of fresh water 💦. The question is therefore: What part can breeding play in ensuring that plants make optimal use of available resources and deliver stable yields even under drought stress ☀️? At KWS, our plant breeders 🌱 are already working on solutions for tomorrow – one example being barley, where the search for genetic material that indicates good drought tolerance begins as early as the pre-breeding stage. The aim is to breed adaptable varieties able to thrive under changing conditions. Learn more about pre-breeding here. https://ow.ly/HujN50TnRWy #LetsTalkBreeding #seedingthefuture
