Scaling up efficiency: We proudly welcome EVA Airways Corp. as the first Asian airline to sign up for the drag-reducing and thus fuel-saving #AeroSHARK we jointly developed with BASF. The renowned airline recently decided to have its entire Boeing #777F freighter fleet modified with our sharkskin-inspired riblet films covering several hundred square meters of each aircraft’s fuselage and engine nacelles. Fuel consumption and emissions will thus be reduced by around one percent. Once all of EVA Air’s nine 777Fs are modified this way, this will amount to annual savings of over 2,500 metric tons of jet fuel and more than 7,800 metric tons of CO2 emissions. With B-16786, a first EVA Air freighter has already undergone this comprehensive modification at the airline’s homebase at Taipei Taoyuan International Airport. Closely guided by our experts, the modification was executed by EVA Air's affiliate, Evergreen Aviation Technologies Corp. (EGAT). The aircraft is expected to re-enter commercial service in early September. “EVA Air is continually progressing towards its goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, constantly seeking the latest technologies to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Albert Liao, Executive Vice President Corporate Planning Division. “We are delighted to collaborate with Lufthansa Technik in applying the fuel-saving AeroSHARK surface technology to our 777F freighters. This innovation not only reduces fuel consumption but also lowers CO2 emissions. EVA Air will continuously monitor the actual fuel-saving benefits and further evaluate additional aircraft to be equipped with this technology.” “EVA Air is well known for both its pioneering spirit and its technical expertise, hence we are all the more pleased that we succeeded in convincing them about the benefits of AeroSHARK, the world’s most advanced sharkskin product for the commercial aviation industry,” said our Dr. Wassef Ayadi. “We are proud that with AeroSHARK we can provide international pioneers like EVA Air with a real quick-win measure to reduce the environmental footprint of their operations.” #keepyouflying #lufthansatechnik 🦈 #iflyEVA

Excited to share that we have acquired a majority stake in U.S.-based ETP Thermal Dynamics. This acquisition represents a significant step in expanding our aircraft component services portfolio across the Americas. Integrating ETP Thermal Dynamics into our network will enhance our heat exchanger capacity. We look forward to the new opportunities this partnership will bring. Michael Scheferhoff, Managing Director at Lufthansa Technik Component Services, said: “The acquisition of ETP represents an important step in Lufthansa Technik's strategic growth and the expansion of its capabilities in the aircraft component services in the region. With this partnership, Lufthansa Technik can enhance its market presence and reinforces its position as a globally leading MRO provider.” Rick Campbell, shareholder of ETP Thermal Dynamics, added: “This acquisition ensures continuity and growth for ETP by leveraging Lufthansa Technik’s expertise and market reach to enhance our capabilities and services in the aircraft component market.” Kenny Walling, Director of Production and Engineering at Lufthansa Technik Component Services, will also assume the role as CEO of ETP Thermal Dynamics. On the Road with Rick Zabel! Day 4 had it all: ups and downs—both on the road and mentally. Fortunately, a pro cyclist pushed our #TourdeTechnik crew to reach and overcome their limits! Rick and the team agree: it's all about team spirit and helping each other. Thank you, Rick! We'll take your tips to heart as we aim for our grand finish in Munich, but first: “Next stop, Neuburg.” #cyclingpassion #keepyouflying #excellenceinmotion #LufthansaTechnik

Our #TourdeTechnik team met pro cyclist Rick Zabel, who has often described himself as "the worst mechanic in the world". This is why we invited him to meet some of the best mechanics in the world 😉⚒️ In our engine shop in Frankfurt we provide maintenance for 18 different engine types. Today, our team accepts the challenge with the pro who coaches them on the 4th, quite hilly stage 🚴💨 #Lufthansatechnik #cycling #keepyouflying #excellenceinmotion

Together with Austrian Airlines, we are introducing our fuel-saving AeroSHARK surface film to another aircraft type. From winter 2024, four Boeing 777-200ER aircraft of the Austrian carrier will be equipped with the sharkskin technology. 🦈✈️ The riblet film, jointly developed with BASF, reduces frictional resistance during flight, leading to lower kerosene consumption and CO₂ emissions on long-haul flights. As a result, total savings of approximately 2,650 metric tons of fuel and over 8,300 metric tons of CO₂ are expected over a service life of four years - comparable to taking around 46 flights off the Vienna to New York route! 🌟 “We take our responsibility seriously and take every possible step to reduce CO₂ emissions within our flight operations. At one percent, the sharkskin’s efficiency potential may not sound like much, but in total it will save thousands of tons of CO₂ per year on long-haul flights,” says Francesco Sciortino, COO at Austrian Airlines. “Even though our Boeing 777-200ERs are in their final years of service, we take this investment to get one step closer to our CO₂ reduction targets.”  “The rollout of the fuel-saving sharkskin technology on another aircraft type with Austrian Airlines is great news for other Boeing 777-200ER operators as well,” emphasizes Harald Gloy, COO at Lufthansa Technik. “These are the first of hopefully many more aircraft of this type that, thanks to AeroSHARK, will have lower kerosene consumption and an improved carbon footprint.”  #makechangefly #aeroshark #firstmoverinaviation
