Instrumentation, supplies and expertise in analytical thermal desorption for gas chromatography

Info

We are a specialist manufacturer of instrumentation for detection of trace-level volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds (VOCs and SVOCs). We have a well-deserved reputation for application expertise in the field of thermal desorption, supplying a comprehensive range of instruments, sampling equipment and consumables that enhance the analytical capability of GC–MS. In 2018 we launched Centri, an automated multi-mode sampling platform for pre concentration of analytes from liquid, solid and gaseous samples. Centri has meant we have extended our reach for sample preparation techniques into Headspace, HS-trap, SPME, SPME-trap and high-capacity sorptive extraction (with trap) in addition to thermal desorption. We are part of the Schauenburg Analytics Ltd group of companies, which includes SepSolve Analytical Ltd and Schauenburg Analytical Solutions (Shanghai)

If you’re at CBRNe Convergence in Orlando this month, come and see us on booth 314. Headed up by our Field Sales Manager (Southeast Americas) Ken Hellstern, we’ll be displaying a TT24-7NRT – our latest generation, advanced thermal desorber for near-real-time monitoring of airborne chemical vapours. We'll showcase how this third-gen system delivers lab-grade performance in remote and mobile stations by: ✔️ Eliminating blind spots with continuous data collection. ✔️ Fast, sensitive detection with cycle times as short as 5-10 minutes. ✔️ Operating cylinder-free, with award winning Multi-Gas technology and electrical cooling. ✔️ Enabling remote, unattended monitoring for field deployment. ✔️ Supporting both selective monitoring and broad-spectrum screening for targeted monitoring or broad screening. As well as displaying a TT24-7NRT, our team will be presenting two posters: ☣️ Advancements in Near-Real-Time Monitoring for Chemical Warfare Agents: Enhancing Detection and Field Deployment Capabilities ☣️ Beyond Air Monitoring: Advancements in trace level detection of chemical warfare agents and toxic chemicals in environmental matrices and contaminated materials Find out more here ➡️ https://loom.ly/eDX6-Is #ChemicalWarfareAgents #AnalyticalChemistry #CBRNE

Helping analysts achieve trace level analysis of VVOCs, VOCs and SVOCs.

Zombie facts, monster myths… call them what you will. Chances are, if you use GC or Thermal desorption (TD) you will probably have come across some of these misleading and incorrect pieces of information” – that despite being debunked, seem to persist… With Halloween fast approaching and Nick van Noorden’s creative genius, now is the perfect time to bust some of these monster myths about TD once and for all!   🎃 Zombie Fact 1 – “Liquid cryogen is the only way to trap VOCs” No need for the ghost of cryogen past. Modern Peltier-cooled TD systems trap volatile compounds without the cost or complexity of cryogen. 🎃 Zombie fact 2 – "TD only allows you to analyse a sample once.” Let’s bust this monster myth. Modern TD systems allow you to re-collect and split samples, enabling sample archiving for multiple analyses from the same sample.   🎃 Zombie fact 3 – "Valves and transfer lines get fouled up and are expensive to maintain.” Don’t let this vampire suck your budget dry! Modern TD systems use inert, uniformly heated valves and lines, eliminating fouling and the need for expensive replacements. 🎃 Zombie Fact 4 – "Thermal desorption is just for air samples” This myth has been lurking for too long. Thermal desorption is not just for environmental air sampling – it’s a versatile tool for analyzing liquids, solids, and even breath samples.   🎃 Zombie fact 5 – “TD is for targeted analysis only.” Don’t let this zombie fact haunt your lab any longer. Modern TD systems benefit from backflush operation (desorption in the reverse direction to sampling) which enables use of multiple sorbent beds, expanding the range of VOCs that can be analysed from a single sample to allow the analysis of targeted and untargeted compounds.   Read our "Busting the Zombie facts guide" or Blog below to banish some of these Zombie Facts once and for all! https://lnkd.in/e_8bdrCV

Application scientist - Extraction and Enrichment at Markes International

At the EuSP2024 | GSAC2024 in beautiful Chania (below), Professor Elia Psillakis said something that stuck with me from the round table discussion “I believe that in the future, the term ‘green sample preparation’ will fade away, because it will simply become the standard way of conducting sample preparation.” Elia makes a great point on this, and working with academics as well as industry to promote greener technologies shows a great potential for the future of standardized methods. One area of green analytical chemistry that Markes International is more focused on, is reducing solvents and creating products that can be reused. An example of this is sorptive extraction, in which our upcoming webinar, “Sorptive Extraction Fundamentals and Applications: Extracting More with SPME and HiSorb”, Elia will be discussing how using equations can help improve your method development when using these techniques, and I will be going over some examples of these equations in practice! 💡 🥼 Find out how to detect 1,4-dioxane in water samples at 0.01 μg/L (10 ppt) – well beyond the detection limits required in German REACH and US EPA regulations.  Read our application note to see how using SPME Arrow–trap with multi-step enrichment (MSE®) on the Centri automation sample preparation and concentration platform, combined with GC–MS, can easily achieve the detection of 1,4-dioxane in water samples at 0.01 μg/L (10 ppt). Using the PAL3 Centri platform also streamlines the entire workflow, reducing analysis time from over 24 hours to under an hour, meaning more data, faster insights, and greater efficiency for your lab. One of my favourite beaches here. Removing plastic and rubbish in general from the sea is one of my passions, so really glad to hear Caroline Widdowson talking about the use of thermal desorption (TD) in post-consumer recycled plastics to reduce the amount of plastic waste and to promote plastic recycling. Please listen on-demand to Caroline's webinar for more information on: - The challenges involved in the analysis of VOCs from polymers - How TD–GC–MS can improve the detection of trace compounds, including odorants in polymers - Explore real-world examples of emissions considerations applied to polymers https://lnkd.in/ezp6CijY

We’re pleased to be sponsoring Owlstone Medical's online Breath Biopsy Conference (BBCON) again this year, and we’re very much looking forward to hearing from all the other breath research experts to learn more about the challenges they face in this fast-evolving field. Markes’ Dr Helen Martin will be giving a talk at the end of the first day – ‘Advancing breathomics workflows: Innovations in thermal desorption to support large scale studies’. Helen will be discussing how to push the boundaries of biomarker research and clinical application using Markes newest instruments – the Re-Collect 10 and Dual-TD. Re-Collect 10 splits a single sample onto up to 10 sorbent tubes, allowing for the simultaneous generation of 10 replicate quality control or calibration standards, saving over an hour of analysts' time per set; while the Dual-TD system doubles the productivity of TD-GC systems by enabling simultaneous processing and analysis of two samples – ideal for high throughput labs needing to verify the cleanliness of sorbent tubes or sampling apparatus. Click here to find out more about the conference, and to book your place ➡️ https://loom.ly/3LVxVDw #BBCON2024 #BreathBiopsy #AnalyticalChemistry
