On Tuesday my colleagues Naser Al-Natsheh, Tetiana Pittsyk, Rytis Mitkus, Nikita Zuravliov, Samir Benedict Charif and me went on a field trip as part of the lecture "Schwingungsmesstechnik". Almost 20 students joined our tour, which was organized by the Institute of Mechanics and Adaptronics of Technische Universität Braunschweig Our first stop was Rolls-Royce in Dahlewitz, where we were granted insights into turbofan engine manufacturing and testing. It was impressive to see the results of years of engineering experience and high-performance materials, and how individual components up to whole assemblies are being tested. As it perfectly fits with the content of our lecture, we then also visited Maul-Theet GmbH in Berlin. The team presented their novel equipment developed especially for the disciplines of Experimental Modal Analysis and Operational Modal Analysis, which makes measurements more efficient and easier. Many thanks to the team at Rolls Royce: Ulrike Stoll CEng, Dr Stephen Brookes CEng MRAeS FIMMM, Silvia Bertini and Jörn Steglich and the team at Maul-Theet GmbH: Karl Theet, Johannes Theet (+ who is not on LinkedIn) for the great tour and answering all our questions. A Double Hit-free and reproducible excitation of the test structure is indispensable for a large number of test scenarios. With the new vImpact-64 we have managed to construct an automatic hammer that can be easily setup in all positions of a production line. The design also allows the excitation in the center of plane structures. The vImpact-64 was developed together with our new "Quality Control Test Stand | VQC". 100% product testing for natural frequency and damping is now easy to achieve. Solution for typical hydro acoustic ship measurement & evaluation for classification purposes |HyA Hydroacoustics is a comprehensive solution for typical hydro acoustic ship measurement & evaluation for classification purposes. It covers the customer site setup with different measurement places and their hydrophones, including the spectral corrections from the calibration routines. Additionally the system can be used mobile onboard (local database) with automatic data synchronization to the central database when coming home to the base measurement site. All meta data like ship data, hydrophone data as well as all measurement and evaluation data go into the same data base and is therefore available throughout the complete measurement and evaluation process. The network based server/client design allows an (almost) unlimited number of measurement and evaluation clients working at the same time, as all are accessing the same data base through the local area network (LAN). Using the transport database functionality subsets of meta data, and measurement and evaluation data can be exchanged between different databases. At all measurements and online calculations, like Octave- and FFT-Spectra, in parallel the time signals of the hydrophones can be recorded and saved to the database. Special displays and dedicated views allow highly efficient data quality control during the measurements. At the Hydroacoustics Calculator, from the Hydroacoustics Database the data can easily be dragged by mouse to the various analysis. There is Spectral Evaluation, Transient Analysis, Post Processing, Combine and Beamforming that can be applied on the data.
