Last week, I had the privilege to attend the Early Career Researchers Conference at the beautiful Kloster Steinfeld monastery near Cologne, Germany. The organizers did a wonderful job organizing the event and it was a great learning experience. I attended some very interesting lectures about a wide variety of plant biology topics, some more fundamental and some more applied. I really enjoyed talking to several brilliant young and established researchers from the MPIPZ - Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research and the John Innes Centre, two excellent institutes for plant research. My poster was titled ‘Unraveling the Transformation of Green Leaf Volatile Aroma During Berry Ripening’ and it explored how changes in volatiles result in a shift from grassy, leafy aromas to fruity, sweet aromas during strawberry, blackberry, and raspberry ripening. I received a lot of useful advice about my project and have a lot to think about going forward, to say the least!

It was an honor to be a part of the organizing committee for ECRC2024, where we just wrapped up an unforgettable three-day conference in Cologne, Germany! The 3rd Biannual "Early Career Researchers' Conference" brought together passionate young scientists who took the spotlight, presenting their groundbreaking research and forging valuable connections within the plant science community. A massive thanks to our incredible partners at the John Innes Centre and MPIPZ - Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research for their support and for hosting such a fantastic event. It was truly a success! Special appreciation goes to Monika Schlosser Judith Eschrich Megan Sierz Francesca Stomeo for their incredible behind-the-scenes efforts from start to finish. And a huge shoutout to the panel discussion team Anna Martyn and Sara Pinto- we absolutely nailed it!

This event, organized by early career researchers, was a fantastic opportunity for our young scientists to present their findings, network and build lasting connections with peers in the field of plant science.
