With the support of the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) and a strong consortium led by Tecnalia Research and Innovation, we are trying to develop a fully bio-based, intelligent and recyclable packaging solution for fresh meat in the REDYSIGN project. Airlaid for cigarette filters The GENIA cigarette filter developed by us consists of 100% pure cellulose. Conventional cigarette filters, on the other hand, are made of cellulose acetate, a bio-based plastic that takes 10-15 years to decompose in nature. Every year, around 660,000 tons of plastic waste end up in nature and the oceans due to discarded cigarette butts. With the GENIA filter material, we have developed an alternative made of pure cellulose that decomposes completely within a few weeks and does not contain any plastic components.
