The next part of our air freight series is dedicated to critical goods and the challenges they pose. For some goods, the air route is actually the only solution for transporting them safely and on time to their destination, such as perishable foodstuffs or medical goods. One factor that is often very important is cold chain logistics. Foods, for example, need to be constantly cooled to a precise temperature. This requires special packaging, customised vehicles, temperature-controlled cargo compartments in the aircraft and particularly speedy handling at all transfer points. Close cooperation with airlines and authorities is essential to avoid unforeseen delays such as weather conditions, customs clearance or technical problems. Innovative technologies such as IoT-based sensors, real-time tracking and automated warning systems help to recognise critical situations at an early stage and take immediate action. For many goods, official regulations must also be observed and certificates for handling must be available, for example when transporting animals. Very high-value goods are subject to additional security checks and may require specialised handling teams. Dangerous goods are another example of the complex challenges facing air freight, which we will also be looking at in another post. Critical goods emphasise the strengths of air freight: speed, reliability and global reach. With the right logistics network and attention to detail, even the most difficult goods can be delivered efficiently and safely around the world. #logistics #coldchainlogistics #timemanagement #criticalgoods #supplychain #MGC

Port of Hamburg: Long waiting times put a strain on the logistics sector As one of the largest ports in Europe, the Port of Hamburg is a central hub for international goods transport. However, freight forwarders are currently facing massive problems: Waiting times of up to 8 hours for the delivery and collection of containers impair efficiency and cause high costs. Despite bookable time slots, these are often not available or lead to long delays. Staff shortages, internal miscalculations, inadequate software: a number of problems seem to cause terminal operators to become less efficient - but this usually has no effect on the quayside, only on onward transport from the port. The resulting costs ultimately have to be paid by the transport service providers. These inefficient processes not only damage the logistics sector, but also jeopardise the future of the Port of Hamburg as an international hub. More and more companies are considering switching to other European ports - an ominous signal for Hamburg as a business location. #logistics #portofhamburg #competitiveness #supplychain #efficiency #MGC

A promising and interesting project!
We are launching a new format, ‘Above the clouds: insights into air freight’, in which we would like to regularly introduce you to individual aspects of air freight over the coming weeks and months. Today we start with the journey of an air freight shipment from origin to destination and all its stopovers. The logistics behind air freight is a fascinating process that requires precise time management and international coordination. Here is an insight into the typical process: 1️⃣ Preparing quotations: The needs of each customer and each order are very different. Due to large price ranges in the execution of the order, it is very important to first understand what the customer really needs. 2️⃣ Transport to the airport: A distinction must be made according to urgency. Particularly urgent consignments must be sent with the first available flight, while in other cases the cheaper option of local groupage is sufficient. 3️⃣ Security checks: Before loading, the cargo goes through strict security checks to comply with international security regulations. 4️⃣ Loading onto the aircraft: Once the cargo is ready for acceptance, it is carefully loaded onto the cargo aircraft - where time management and precise planning are crucial to avoid delays. 5️⃣ Flight and transit: During the flight, real-time tracking and communication between all parties involved is essential to make any adjustments to the schedule. 6️⃣ Customs clearance: Once at the destination airport, the cargo is inspected by the local customs authorities. To avoid delays, well-prepared documentation is required in advance 7️⃣ Delivery: After customs clearance, the goods are prepared for transport to their final destination - by lorry or other means of transport. The logistics behind air freight is a fascinating process that requires precise time management and international coordination. Customer expectations and delivery times can only be met if every stage is seamlessly coordinated. An important service that offers a fast, reliable and global transport solution and enables time-critical deliveries to be handled efficiently and flexibly. #airfreight #cargo #logistics #timemanagement #Internationality #supplychain #MGC

Let's focus on our strengths!
How can Germany be strengthened as an air freight location? A quantitative study by the Federal Association of the German Air Transport Industry (BDL) confirms the assumption that German airports are increasingly being bypassed for freight and places such as Luxembourg, Liège, Brussels and Prague are being used - which is very questionable from an ecological point of view... Instead of bureaucratising international airports, we should work on our own structures, remove barriers and simplify processes. There are many possibilities: ➡️Digitise and speed up processes, for example in customs clearance ➡️More competitive cost structures, for example reducing operating costs for air freight companies through subsidies or tax relief ➡️Promoting technologies to simplify handling processes despite the lack of skilled labour ➡️Strengthening international trade relations to facilitate the export and import of goods via Germany. Germany is located in the heart of Europe, has an excellent infrastructure and stable economic conditions and enjoys a reliable reputation worldwide. So let's continue to work on expanding these success factors. Apart from the fact that, as a German freight forwarder, at MGC Logistics GmbH we try to strengthen our economic location, we will always explore the most economical and practical solution in the interest of our customers and partners, even if this leads to a departure airport in neighbouring countries. #airfreight #cargo #supplychain #germany #aiports #MGC #logistics

Things that should not happen...
Two vessels less within just a few days - even though freight capacity is already tight... First an explosion in the port of Ningo, then a fire on board a container ship in Colombo. Even if the causes of these accidents are still far from clear, the events dramatically emphasise how important safety is for sea freight. A lack of skilled labour, ignorance or currently scarce resources must never be an excuse to disregard existing safety standards. Dangerous goods have their name for a reason; logisticians need to be trained accordingly and it is our responsibility to double check all these things. As mentioned at MGC Logistics GmbH, freight capacity is already severely limited due to detours around the Suez Canal. So why should we make it even harder and be careless with capacity? #seafreight #dangerousgoods #transport #safety #responsibility #logistics

We recently reported on the rising freight prices. But what about the consequences? Not everyone in the chain is happy with the higher prices: Retailers with low-priced items in particular are suffering and are unable to pass on the higher transport costs one-to-one to their goods. As a result, the goods are not ordered and the shelves remain empty. For more expensive consumer goods such as electronics, prices can be expected to rise - similar to what happened during the pandemic. The end consumer is therefore also "suffering" from the developments. But what will happen next? Will for example the Christmas business also be affected? There is currently no sign of an end to the rising rates, which are mainly due to the attacks by the Houthi rebels and the bypassing of the Suez Canal. Larger shipping companies have already ordered bigger vessels in order to be able to transport more containers, but this process will take time to reduce freight prices again in the long term and is also difficult for smaller companies to implement. The market is unlikely to relax completely until the attacks in the Red Sea have calmed down - and is therefore difficult to predict or calculate. We are looking forward to further developments. #freightprices #logistics #supplychain #trade #containertransport #suezcanal #MGC
