The Legal Aid Society recognized several Milbank attorneys for their #probono contributions at its 2024 Pro Bono Publico Awards Ceremony. Grant Mainland, Robert Hora, Joseph Kammerman, Benjamin Brindis, Nicholas Fallah, Mike Frieda and Sharvari Kothawade were honored for their work on a rent overcharge case involving a class of tenants living in a building in Queens since 2018. Since the case was brought, the team has battled through a motion to dismiss, a motion to renew, and an appeal. After a long-fought battle the court ordered discovery, and the team survived two motions to reconsider. Pro bono counsel Anthony Perez Cassino also was recognized for “his extraordinary contributions as a volunteer attorney, his constant support of The Legal Aid Society and its clients and as a leader of Milbank’s legendary pro bono program for over 25 years." Over a year after the FTC and DOJ first announced changes to the premerger notification form and associated rules under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act, the final rules were released in October 2024. Milbank represented long-time client Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) in its agreement to sell its indirect stake in Philippine Coastal Storage & Pipeline Corporation (PCSPC), together with Singapore-listed Keppel Infrastructure Trust who is also selling its indirect stake in PCSPC, to an affiliate of global infrastructure investor I Squared Capital. The agreed purchase price is approximately US$296M subject to adjustments including a possible earn-out payment of up to US$50M upon the achievement of certain performance milestones. Milbank Singapore-based partner James Murray participated in a panel discussion at PFI’s 29th Financing Energy Projects in Asia Conference on October 17. He discussed corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs) and focused particularly on the issues applicable to cross-jurisdictional power projects following the closing of the award-winning Monsoon Wind project (on which Milbank acts as lead adviser to the lenders) and in light of other similar projects being developed in the region (a number of which are back-stopped by corporate PPAs). Read more: https://lnkd.in/ehKmnKa6
