Building the infrastructure for environmentally-sound and circular e-waste collection and recycling in the Global South.

Info

22% of our global electronic waste is collected, documented & optimally recycled. Minimise builds & scales the global infrastructure to collect and recycle the remaining 78%. By 2030, no company will be able to ignore the circular economy. There is massive opportunity waiting for electronics manufacturers, retailers & distributors that embrace a circular business model. We're building and scaling professional and documented electronics waste recycling in the global south. Instead of building their own infrastructure, electronics manufacturers and retailers leverage ours. We work with e-waste collectors & recyclers in 7 countries along the global south to scale their business. In return for our support, they report their activities in our software platform. After aggregating and vetting the data, we make it available to our customers as proof of recycling. They get access to the full recirculation journey of waste, its recyclable contents and the waste we safely disposed of.

Here you go 🎁 Data about electronic waste nobody has ever seen before. About what exactly? - What's inside e-waste (in %). - Recoverable resources (beyond metals). - Non-recyclable content breakdowns. - Tips for true circular resource impact. + Most importantly, something that simply never has been measured before: 📏 A first measurement on the impact of informal waste sectors on e-waste economics. Including an estimation on the benefits and opportunities that can be unlocked, if they were included in a national EPR strategy. What is the informal waste sector? This sector handles most of the world's e-waste. These are the hard working professionals who's livelihood depends on the resources inside waste. Most often found in countries without an official waste management infrastructure, they collect, extract and sell the resources. What's the problem? 1. They often work disregarding their own health. 2. Local governments often see them as a problem. 3. It's often unknown, how effective their work is. 4. The economics behind their activities are a mystery. In India, we have finally managed to document their activities. With the help of Landbell GreenForest Solutions India and E[co]work - for safe & inclusive e-waste management, we employed the informal sector 👷 They collected 18 tons of e-waste for us: - 9 tons from the informal sector. - 9 tons from the formal sector. They were paid to safely dismantle this waste and document it's contents, in up to 21 categories! That output was recorded. In the Minimise registry - link👇 And used to write this white paper 📒 Happy reading! #ewasteday #junkdrawer #ewastehunt #circulareconomy #sustainability #recirculation #ewaste #india #germany #collaboration #whitepaper #EPR -- Thanks to WEEE Forum for organising this yearly event. Another day, another country. Today, India 🇮🇳 India is one of the world's largest processor of e-waste: - treating ±4.1 million tons annually. - employing ±2 million informal sector workers. - boasting a documented(!) recycling rate below 10%. Keep an eye out for India though 👀 as those numbers will start to improve. Today, we're publishing the first batch of documented & traceable e-waste collected, and sorted! 🎉 This promises to be some of our most accurate data to date, containing #plastics separation! Beyond metals, you'll see PP, ABS, ... etc. We also actively including informal sector workers, educating them on safe dismantling and sorting. They are the professionals, now let's use that knowledge to bring traceable e-waste recycling rates up. Lots of secondary raw materials will be recirculated with Landbell GreenForest Solutions India and E[co]work - for safe & inclusive e-waste management the coming time. Follow along for the ride. Based on resources extracted, what type of e-waste was collected? Write your guess in the comments 👇 Don't sneak a peak on our registry (yet) This is a snapshot of ±933 kilos of output material. Yesterday, we published the proof for ±6 tons of electronics collected by our partner in Mexico 🇲🇽 Keep in mind, this is e-waste collected from the general public. Mexico does not operate a formal collection scheme for this type of e-waste. The collection and recycling rate in the country is below 10%. With these efforts, we actively build towards a circular economy. Do you want to: - help us collect more? - gain insights into e-waste data? - procure secondary raw materials for production? - understand the footprint of electronics and e-waste? - incorporate circular economy impact metrics into ESG reporting? This week was another exciting one in our journey towards a globally traceable e-waste ecosystem. The next update on our journey for refurbed is live. Working closely together with our partner, Closing the Loop, we can now announce that 50.000 scrap phones, saved from landfill are now packaged and ready for shipping. One step closer to their destination as recycled raw materials, for new circular products. Refurbed can be proud of this impact. Preventing phones from ending in landfill is positive for the environment, the local population and reduces our reliance on mining ⛏️🏔️ Check out the journey through the link 🔗 on our page 🚀 #recirculation #traceability #impact #ewaste #circulareconomy

2 years ago I didn't dare dream of this. Two celebrations in one 🎉 Firstly, happy birthday Refurbed 🎈 7 years of "rethinking new". You're making the world a better place by giving electronics a second life. Here's to many more years Jürgen Riedl, Kilian Kaminski and Peter Windischhofer 🥂 Secondly, we're very happy to join you in achieving your mission. We started Minimise with the belief we can only achieve a circular economy together. That means establishing partnerships. Soo... 🙏 From today Refurbed and Minimise take their first step together. Because every phone: - new, - repaired, - refurbished, ...will eventually reach the end of its life. At that point we need to make sure they are collected & recycled properly. 🌍 However currently, for over 80% of our e-waste that can not be guaranteed. The risk is it ends up in landfills, harming people and planet. ♻️ That's why Refurbed has contributed to the collection and environmentally-sound recycling of 50.000 phones, enabled by Minimise. 🇬🇭 We are working closely with our partner Closing the Loop in Ghana, to start collecting phones before they end in landfills. Every step of the collection and recycling journey is carefully tracked for full transparency. 📍 And the kicker? Over the course of 2024, Refurbed will be sharing the journey of these 50.000 phones to their customers. Like track & trace for waste making its way back into the circular economy. 🤖 Into a world without e-waste! -- Follow me, Minimise and refurbed to stay in the loop on this journey. #ewaste #recirculation #sustainability #circulareconomy #refurbished #partnership

There’s an alternative to CO2 compensation that reflects the resources used in your products: Electronic Waste Tokens 🤖 They reflect the footprint of your manufacturing and/or retail operations in tons of e-waste collected, treated and recycled. Inside the tokens, we capture: – Journey of the waste, as it re-enters the economy. – Resources inside: like gold, silver, copper, and more. – Project and partner information, for legitimacy purposes. Compared to CO2 certificates, E-waste tokens are traceable and evidence-backed. Want to see and receive one? Request demo and let's chat at CES! #ces2024 #sustainability #recirculation #ewaste #consumerelectronics #householdappliances #circulareconomy
