I was honored to participate in the inaugural Lakestar Healthcare Symposium last week, alongside 50 esteemed entrepreneurs, regulators, and investors from the healthcare industry, including former Minsters of Health Jens Spahn, Dr. Philipp Rösler, and Daniel Bahr. Many thanks to Oliver Heimes for the invitation. Held at the Berlin Museum of Medical History at the Charité in Berlin, the symposium provided sharp and thought-provoking insights about the German political landscape and the state of digitisation in healthcare. One key takeaway for me was the perspective of insurers on prevention. While many envision a transition from sick care to healthcare, the reallocating funds from disease treatment to prevention (and longevity), insurers remain skeptical on this topic. For insurers, the financial equation must make sense. Does a customer truly cost less if they engage in preventative care? Or does an increase in lifespan result in higher costs? Perhaps, ironically, the most profitable scenario is a customer who lives unhealthily and passes away prematurely...

For the April edition of Longevity Wednesdays, we brought together a stellar lineup of scientists, entrepreneurs, and investors in the longevity space for an invite-only dinner just outside Lisbon, sponsored by naturalX Health Ventures.
