The NDC Partnership and UN Climate Change with technical inputs from UNDP, World Resources Institute and more than 30 additional partners, launched the NDC 3.0 Navigator, an interactive online tool that equips countries to raise ambition and accelerate implementation in the upcoming #NDCs 3.0 cycle, due to be submitted in 2025. Presenting seven “Routes to Ambitious and Implementable #NDCs,” the NDC 3.0 Navigator combines expert-created and recommended strategies and resources to create a common framework for countries to strengthen their #NDCs 3.0 submissions. At the 2024 NAP Expo, countries took stock of progress on adaptation planning and implementation. UNDP highlights key opportunities identified related to mobilizing #ClimateFinance for NAP and NDC implementation. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eaiG5WZp #NDCs 3.0 are a chance for countries to align their NDCs and NAPs, enhancing adaptation ambition. 🇧🇩 Bangladesh recently developed its NAP, which can guide the implementation of adaptation components of #NDCs. Innovative funding approaches are key to addressing the gap in adaptation finance. By implementing a tourism green tax, the 🇲🇻 Maldives generates income for its national climate change fund. Local communities play a crucial role in effective climate adaptation. 🇲🇿 Mozambique is integrating climate change into local development plans in line with NAP priorities.

🇬🇲 The Republic of #TheGambia launched its #NDC Implementation Plan 2021-2030, operationalizing its NDC and advancing long-term transformative #ClimateAction. Despite its low emissions, The Gambia is recognized for its ambitious NDC and climate-neutral strategy for 2050. This plan, covering critical sectors, is a transformative, results-based blueprint for climate-development action. The plan covers: ✅ Agriculture ✅ Buildings ✅ Energy ✅ Industry ✅ Water ✅ Waste ✅ Policy ✅ Legislative and institutional review and development ✅ Budget and investment ✅ Gender ✅ Youth ✅ Capacity building NDC Partnership members and partners UNDP, ICLEI, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), UNICEF, the UK and 2050 Pathways Platform , among others, have supported The Gambia's NDC implementation and update process, providing technical capacity. The NDC Partnership will continue supporting The Gambia's climate action priorities, programs and projects, mobilizing further support through Global Call for NDCs 3.0 & LT-LEDS. The UN and partners, including the NDC Partnership, have announced the regional meetings, "NDCs 3.0 Regional Fora," which aim to raise ambition in the next round of climate pledges amid record temperatures and climate impacts. Organized by UN Environment Programme, UNDP, UN Climate Change and the NDC Partnership, the NDCs 3.0 Regional Fora will help countries align the next round of their climate commitments with the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees C and increasing resilience to climate impacts. NDCs 3.0 Regional Fora will take place in: 📍The Pacific: 12-16 Aug., Samoa 📍Latin America & Caribbean: 27-29 Aug., Colombia 📍Eastern Europe & Central Asia: 3-5 Sep., Türkiye 📍Middle East & North Africa: 23-25 Sep., Tunisia 📍Asia: 30 Sep-2 Oct., Thailand 📍Africa: 7-9 Oct., Rwanda Meeting a 1.5-degree target requires reducing global #GHG emissions by 42% by 2030 and urgent, country-driven adaptation backed by appropriate finance. About the fora: ✅ The fora will use insights from COP28 and the Global Stocktake to focus on mitigation options, adaptation solutions and the inclusion of super pollutants in #NDCs. ✅ Participants will engage in peer learning, explore financing models and develop policy roadmaps for implementation. ✅ As climate change drives nature and biodiversity loss, the fora will encourage countries to align climate targets with commitments on nature, pollution and sustainable development in their NDCs. The NDCs 3.0 Regional Fora are organized in collaboration with partners including the UNEP-convened Climate & Clean Air Coalition, UN-REDD Programme, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and regional partners like Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), United Nations APDIM-ESCAP , United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Ministries of finance are crucial in developing and implementing #NDCs. Highlighting their role in #ClimateAction, the NDC Partnership recently led a session at the first African regional convening of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action. Here are key takeaways: ✅ Given their key role in policy planning and implementation, ministries of finance must be at the center of NDC development and implementation. ✅ Establishing #ClimateFinance units within ministries of finance has proven instrumental in identifying sources and mobilizing climate finance. ✅ Ministries of finance in African countries can take advantage of NDCs 3.0, the next round of NDCs, to surface their adaptation needs and leverage opportunities for mitigating climate change. Ministries of finance can deepen their engagement in climate action by requesting assistance through the Global Call for NDCs 3.0 & LT-LEDS. By leveraging the private sector, countries are better positioned to meet their climate goals and unlock new and innovative sources of #ClimateFinance. UNDP, in collaboration with the NDC Partnership and Pangaea Ventures, recently connected government agencies and national, regional and international private sector actors at a workshop on financing and implementing NDC actions and priorities in the Sahel and West Africa. The event highlighted that project pipelines in NDC investment plans represent market potential for investing in key sectors and created a framework for business-to-government convenings. Now, in developing ambitious and implementable NDCs 3.0, countries can strengthen private sector engagement, laying the foundation for coordinated #ClimateAction and resource mobilization.
