📆 We’re thrilled to show you all this month’s #ScienceArt piece, "Sea Salt", created by our project partner Philip Weiß from the University of Oxford. This intriguing design visualises the dynamic mysterious exchange between sea salt aerosols, clouds, and rain 🌧️ — a captivating look at how these natural elements interact in our #atmosphere. 🌐 Don’t miss out on this unique blend of science and art! 🎨✨ #nextGEMS #SeaSalt #AtmosphericScience #ClimateScience #ClimateModelling #SciComm

Simulating the Future - to support the sustainable management of our planet
Info
nextGEMS is a collaborative European project. It will tap expertise from fourteen European Nations to develop two next generation (storm-resolving) Earth-system Models. Through breakthroughs in simulation realism, these models will allow us to understand and reliably quantify how the climate will change on a global and regional scale, and how the weather, including its extreme events, will look like in the future. nextGEMS is funded through the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under the grant agreement number 101003470.

🎬 It's a wrap! Our 5th #nextGEMS #Hackathon has come to an end and concluded with a lively closing session. Our challenge groups explained their results of the week and presented some beautiful #simulation plots that were created during the #hackahton (see below). Bjorn Stevens, director of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, also joined the discussion and gave some insights into the future of the nextGEMS project. 🌐 🌎 👁️ For a more details on the last day, keep an eye on: https://lnkd.in/enyWyaWQ #nextGEMS #ClimateModelling #H2020 CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency Wageningen University & Research Universität Bern

⏰It's 6 PM, and the grind isn't over yet! Our participants are still at work, pushing to finalize their last lines of code, dig even deeper into data analysis, and prepare for tomorrow’s big closing session. Today, we were especially impressed by the workshop on #EnergyStorylines during which participants reflected on the types of data different stakeholders in the energy industry need to make smarter, more informed decisions. ⚡ We're eager to hear their insights tomorrow! #H2020 #Hazards

💎 What a fantastic way to finish another day of hacking! 🌲 Thank you, Guido van der Werf, for your fascinating keynote on #Fire in the Earth System - #Modeling fires globally is not as straight forward as it might seem. Human activities, diverse policies on forest management and land use change are just some of the factors turning this endeavour into a very complex task. 🔥 🍀 Good luck hackers - we're excited for your results at the end of the week! 🔥 Day 3 of the Hazard #Hackathon at Wageningen University & Research! The competition is heating up as participants dive deep into #DataAnalysis! 📊After settling in and getting to know the differnt groups, today, the focus shifts to investigating real-world problems. 🔍 In addition to their hacking activities, our scientists are connecting with experts from the #EnergySector and #FoodIndustry to explore how their findings can inform real-world challenges. Stay tuned! #H2020 #nextGEMS CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency Universität Bern
