FREMM Contract – FREMM EVO - Deep Strike Capability Studies Option Activation on behalf of Italy Paris/France – Euronaval – 5 November 2024 - The #OCCAR #HORIZON Programme Manager, Mr. Luigi Durante, signed, on behalf of Italy, the order for the activation of a key option foreseen in the #FREMM Contract. This step will launch a feasibility study for integrating the Naval Cruise Missile (NCM) System and developing the "deep strike" capability on Italian FREMM ships. This agreement was signed with ORIZZONTE SISTEMI NAVALI S.p.A. Sistemi Navali, represented by Mr. Davide Traverso, that will be fully supported by MBDA for the achievement of the milestone. The event was attended by the Chief of the Marina Militare Italiana, Enrico #Credendino, Vice Admiral Giuseppe #Abbamonte, Director of the Naval Armaments Directorate and Italian Programme Committee representative, General Gaël Diaz de Tuesta from DGA - Direction générale de l'armement and Mr. Giovanni #Soccodato from MBDA. This milestone reflects the Italian MoD and Italian Navy’s ongoing commitment to exploring the addition of deep strike capabilities for this class of new frigates. The two #FREMM #EVO ships, with these potential upgrades, are scheduled for delivery by June 2029 and June 2030. OCCAR has played a vital role in facilitating this progress, supporting cooperation and capability exchange between Italy and France. The FREMM Program’s success showcases how OCCAR fosters collaboration, joining national defense bodies like France´s DGA, the Italian MoD (General Defense Secretariat and Naval Armament Directorate) and the two Navies. This cooperation between Italy and France within the OCCAR framework highlights the benefits of multinational collaboration in defense, achieving advanced defense capabilities in a relatively short timeframe. OCCAR HYDEF Programme EM KO and PRM 2 Milestones Achieved Tres Cantos/Spain, 29-30 October 2024 –The OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation) #HYDEF Programme has met the third technical milestone (EM KO) and the third management milestone (PRM2). These achievements were made during meetings held over two days at the Sener facilities. The aim of the Early Maturation Kick-Off Meeting (EM KO) was to validate planned activities, aligning them with the initial proposal, while incorporating critical technologies identified in the pre-feasibility phase. The meeting comprised of all the Participating States (PSs), involved assessing the current Technological Readiness Level (TRL) of these technologies and identifying the resources required to advance their TRLs. The EM KO marks the start of the activities of technology maturation. The activities to be performed in Early Design and Technology Maturation, based on the critical technologies identified in the pre-feasibility phase, were demonstrated to be ready to start. The expected challenges in their developments were laid out, as identified in the Technology Plan. The feasibility phase is then in progress and technical maturation activities have started right after the Early Maturation Kick-off meeting. Following this meeting, the Programme will mainly consist of the definition of the concept for the system, leading to the Concept Selection Milestone (CSM) in August 2025, and the performance of maturation activities, reaching the Early Maturation Mid-Term Review Milestone (EM MTR) in October 2025. The Progress Review Meeting 2 (PRM 2) was held between the Project Coordinator (SMS), the Project Manager of each beneficiary and the OCCAR HYDEF Programme Division. The HYDEF Consortium presented to the OCCAR HYDEF Programme Division the general status of the Programme covering progress, KPIs, schedule review, risk assessment and mitigation, financial, quality control, ethics and other aspects. Both milestones were successfully met on schedule. “Co-funded by the European Union.
