💥Your pre-weekend read (https://lnkd.in/dJQgTWsJ): Intelsat 33a and a closer look at #GEO's debris population Fragmentation events in geostationary orbit pose one of the biggest challenges to space operations. Unlike low Earth orbit, debris in GEO remains for thousands of years. When collisions or breakups happen in GEO, it can trigger a cascade of risks: 💥 Persistent fragments threaten operational satellites. 👉 Limited options for debris removal heighten collision risks. 🛰️ Higher operational costs for satellite maneuvering and avoidance. On the bright side of things, as long as objects are large enough to be observable from ground-based telescopes, state-of-the-art systems can predict the trajectories of these fragments accurately over several days in advance. Collisions with active satellites, thus, are highly unlikely as long as operators remain vigilant. Read all about it 👉https://lnkd.in/dJQgTWsJ

📣 Are you a #GEO operator? Then this is for you. How can you up your Space Situational Awareness game? You can now define individual 🚨keep-out-boxes, centered on your satellite or longitude slot. How? With OKAPI:Aether, you can set width and altitude ranges that align with your station-keeping strategy and create your "neighborhood". 👉 you will receive screenings of all the objects that enter the keep-out-box within the next few days, based on high-precision Special Perturbations data and additional measurements. 👉 you will be notified of each object that moves within your neighborhood. 👉 for critical events, CDMs are provided independently from space-track. 🤔 What does that look like? In the first image, you can see a visual representation of what your neighborhood keep-out-box can look like. In the plot, you can see your spacecraft and the relative movement of all neighbors that cross into your keep-out-box and operate in your vicinity. Have questions or want to learn more? We’re just a message away! 👉 https://lnkd.in/dpT6XV-y #spacesurveillance #satelliteoperators #spacetechnology

A closer look into Space Debris Proliferation 🔍 Historically, approximately 60% of breakup #debris is attributed to #spacecraft, while 35% is caused by #rocket bodies left in orbit. The remaining 5% consists of mission-related debris. Since June, we have observed one debris-creating event per month. Some, of course, are more critical than others. But where does that leave the #space environment? 🤔 Our CTO, Christopher Kebschull, takes a closer look at those events and debris proliferation in his article in SpaceWatch.Global. Here's the link to the full article, let us know what you think 👉 https://lnkd.in/eriDMzfA
