Last week, Panadea’s CEO, Dr. Yang Liu attended the China Clinical Molecular Diagnostics Summit 2024, hosted by China CDC, where he showcased Panadea's serological tests for tropical infectious diseases. Unlike molecular testing, which is most effective within the first two weeks of infection, serological testing can detect antibodies long after onset of symptoms. This extended detection window is crucial for identifying past infections, especially in regions where tropical diseases (Zika, Dengue, etc.) are endemic and continuous monitoring is necessary. Moreover, serological tests can differentiate between recent and past infections by measuring different types of antibodies, such as IgM and IgG. While molecular tests are highly specific, they can miss infections if the viral load is low or if the test is conducted outside the optimal detection window. Serological testing, on the other hand, provides a broader tool, making it a better choice for comprehensive surveillance and long-term epidemiological studies.
