JAM - Joint Assessment of Models: WakeBlaster users benefit from our participation in third party full-scale benchmarks - working with world leading experts on continuous development and consistently demonstrating excellent results. See https://lnkd.in/gBHkFTs for top of the range modelling for small to large (clusters of) wind farms. Nice to meet everyone in person! #windfarm #wake #wakeblaster #proplanen #clusterwakes #longrange
We had a fantastic kickoff last week! Main takeaways: - A working group is now forming for the AWAKEN benchmark execution. Sign up now to run simulations in the summer. Deadline for model submissions is in September. https://lnkd.in/gnbJSifF - Based on our discussions last week, we now expect the following benchmark schedule for the duration of the task: Spring 2024 - AWAKEN plant wake (diurnal cycle, two land-based wind plants) Fall 2024 - RAAW (turbulent inflow generation, land-based, flat terrain) Spring 2025 - WINSENT (complex terrain, two turbines) Fall 2025 - AWAKEN waves* (bonus radar flow measurements) Spring 2026 - WiValdi (near shore, two turbines) - There is large interest in benchmarking offshore wake simulations but no adequate experimental dataset. There will likely be a simulation-only exercise (in 2025) using a reference wind turbine model and farm layout** - For those interested in benchmarking steady-state models and energy yield benchmarking, check out Ørsted's WakeTester: https://lnkd.in/gg-sBe-H - The group is interested in coordinating the establishment and maintenance of an international research site for long-term experimental data collection in collaboration with multiple industry partners. Let us know your thoughts about the topic. *The group is interested in interesting flow events, and several options were proposed. The emphasis on waves here is meant to align our work with the European project Meridional. **The simulation-only offshore benchmark might leverage some UK-based work, some IEA Wind Task 55 work, and some work performed as part of the European FLOW project on theoretical wind farm layouts. The publication of minutes and slides on Zenodo is coming soon!
