We had the pleasure of sitting down for a conversation with Bharat Reddy, a Senior Scientist at Rectify Pharma, to hear more about the exciting first published commercial use of our HexAuFoil® ultra-small hole gold-on-gold grids. Bharat and his team have used HexAuFoil grids to uncover new structural insights into the bile salt export pump (BSEP), a liver-based protein that plays a crucial role in bile regulation. Switching to HexAuFoil has delivered almost a half-angstrom improvement in resolution, enabling the team to eliminate new therapeutic candidates that might pose toxicity risks due to BSEP’s known ability to bind to multiple compounds. Info
Part of SPT Labtech and a leading supplier of superior quality support films for electron microscopy offering a variety of predefined hole size, shape and arrangements. We manufacture and market our proprietary QUANTIFOIL® support foils for electron microscopy. Our Holey Carbon Films were the first perforated support foils with pre-defined hole size, shape and arrangement. By successively expanding our product range we can provide 25 different geometries of our QUANTIFOIL® support foils on various types of TEM grids. Customers from 30 countries also value our willingness to respond to special requirements and benefit from our experience in micro structuring. To ensure the quality of our QUANTIFOIL® support foils and other carbon coated grids our technical staff is skilled and experienced at checking every support foil using our optical microscopes and several of every batch produced using our electron microscopes. We supply directly to end users at Universities and Research Institutes worldwide, as well as through an established network of distributors. Quantifoil Micro Tools was founded in 1999 in Jena and is a owner-led business focused on continuous improvement and sustainability. Since then Quantifoil has grown continuously and employs more than ten highly qualified employees today. In 2012 we moved into our new facility in Großlöbichau near Jena to accommodate the growing business and to ensure the coming technical requirements. More recently we joined the same family group as TTP Labtech and will continue to focus on customer needs and technologies that move research forward. requirements

Final conference of the year and what a pleasure to spend it MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) with British Crystallographic Association BSG Winter Meeting. Lovely day discussing #cryoem and #crystallography, and congratulations to Peter Harrison eBIC Diamond Light Source for taking away the final grid race prize, with a fab 16 sec time!

And as the sun set on the final day of the 5th GDR Appicom meeting in BEAUTIFUL Carry-le-Rouet, we had FOUR possible #cryoEM grid race winners, all tied on 19 secs each: Guillaume Bossan Institute of Physico-Chemical Biology (IBPC) Paris, France, Julie Couston IRIM Institut de Recherche en Infectiologie de Montpellier, and Nejma Rabhi and Pierre Maisonneuve Institut Européen de Chimie et Biologie (IECB)! Astonishing scenes - less than 0.5 secs between them and so... We had a run off competition - from which Nejma Rabhi emerged triumphant, beating her own time with an amazing 18 sec run, and taking away the prize. But wait for the twist... Because after the close of the competition, along came Christelle AlJamous Institut de Génomique Fonctionnelle - IGF with a stunning 15 sec entry, missing the prize but gaining the bragging rights! Incredible #cryoEM tweezer skills all round! (and one last pic of the beauty of Carry-le-Rouet).
