📣👗 Big news for sustainability in fashion! The European Parliament and Council have just reached a provisional agreement on new measures to tackle textile waste across the EU. This marks a major step forward in the fight against fashion’s waste crisis. Introducing #EPR: EU countries will need to establish producer responsibility (EPR) schemes. 📍What: Producers selling textiles in the EU will now be responsible for the costs of collection, sorting and recycling. 📍When: 30 months after the directive takes effect. (And let’s not forget, EU countries were already required to set up separate textile collection as of January 1!) 📍How: Member states will factor in ultra-fast fashion’s impact when defining financial contributions to EPR schemes. 📍Why: In Europe, clothing and footwear generate 5.2 million tonnes of waste every year — that’s 12 kg per person. This is a crucial moment for the industry, and a call to action for brands to rethink their role in a circular economy. Find out how to take action here: https://bit.ly/3QxGvyp
