RE4GREEN EU
Umweltdienstleistungen
RE4GREEN is a Horizon Europe project aiming to support the transition to a sustainable economy and society.
Info
Environmental and climate-related challenges are global and reach all sectors of society. However, research and innovation (R&I) activities that address these challenges, may carry substantial unintended implications. RE4GREEN aims to contribute to a European Research Area ethics and integrity framework for R&I activities designed to reduce the risk from such implications and to support the transition to a sustainable economy and society as envisioned by the European Green Deal. RE4GREEN will reflect diverse stakeholder views and relate them to cross-cutting environmental and climate ethics issues by applying a bottom-up social lab methodology. RE4GREEN’s framework will consist of operational research ethics and integrity guidelines, recommendations, and training materials for researchers, ethics and integrity experts and advisors, and ethics reviewers to ensure R&I activities support the Green Transition.

▶️ Professor Dirk Lanzerath: A look at the challenges of the Anthropocene and the successes that have already been achieved Watch it on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/exxGwtq5 🐑 The reason for founding the German Reference Centre for Ethics in the Life Sciences (DRZE) 25 years ago was the birth of the cloned sheep Dolly in 1996. The normative question that arose at the time was: if mammals can be cloned, is replication also ethically justifiable for humans? 💡 Since the debate on this topic, numerous milestones have been reached in the examination of possibilities in human genetics, reproductive medicine, neuroscience and, more recently, in the field of artificial intelligence. Bioethics has proven to be an important tool for reflection in social and political debates. 🔎💬 The path of bioethical reflection is now moving forward, into the socio-ecological challenges of the Anthropocene, and outwards, towards fruitful exchange with social and scientific partners at national, European and international level. In his welcoming address, Professor Dirk Lanzerath, Director of the DRZE, reviews the growth and past achievements of the DRZE and focuses on the socio-politically indispensable power of the institute to provide orientation in a complex present and future. ➡️ More information on our symposium: drze.de/25th #Bioethics Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn

🎙 In the POIESIS project on trust in science, we recently concluded an expert interview study with 119 science communicators and researchers across seven European countries. The study examined how knowledge dissemination between research and citizens occurs, focusing on the complex ‘chains of mediation’ involved, and gathered recommendations to foster public trust in science. 🔎 In the Danish part of the study, we interviewed ten institutional and non-institutional science mediators and six researchers specializing in climate change and COVID-19. Both groups emphasized the importance of highlighting the positive value of science in communication efforts and involving citizens and stakeholders in research. 🌐 Interviews with mediators suggest that while a traditional mediation model persists, it does not adequately capture the complexity, realities, and multiple translation processes within the Danish science communication landscape. Overall, mediators do not position themselves firmly within a prescriptive chain of mediation and view public trust in science as central to their role. Though not identifying a general crisis of trust, they cite concerns around disinformation and conflicting science narratives in media. 👩🎓 Researchers identified that public concerns arise when research is presented in conflicting ways or challenges personal beliefs, creating uncertainty around its credibility. Several researchers noted that ambiguity in research knowledge and in the role and objectivity of experts can both diminish and increase the polarization of public perceptions. While generally supportive of citizen involvement, some questioned whether it necessarily increases public trust in science. Generally, researchers emphasize the significant role that media and politicians play in science representation, consequently affecting public trust in science. ❗ For a comprehensive overview of the research findings and recommendations, please see the Danish and global report at https://lnkd.in/e73ziz8B. #EUproject #Education #Research #TrustInScience #EnhancingTrust #POIESIS
