♻️Circular Technologies in Construction: Putting Science Into Standards A new report from the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) highlights the urgent need for #standardization to advance circular practices in the #constructionsector. With construction being a major contributor to waste and resource use, the report stresses the importance of standardization to guide the sector’s transition to a more #sustainable, circular model. 📢 Publication Announcement: "Accelerating Circularity Systemically: Three Directions for Impactful Research" Reincarnate is pleased to announce the publication of a recent paper in npj Urban Sustainability, part of Nature Portfolio Journals. Authored by Brian van Laar, Angela Greco, Hilde Remøy, and Vincent Gruis from Delft University of Technology, the paper outlines a structured approach to integrating #circularity within urban design. The authors address the challenges of #resourcescarcity and #waste accumulation in urban systems, proposing three key research directions: ♻️ circularity across scales and time ♻️ redesigning the design process ♻️ learning from past sustainability transitions. "Addressing the Environmental and Climate Footprint of Buildings": takeaways from EEA's report 🏗️ The latest report from the European Environment Agency (EEA) highlights the urgent need to address the #environmental and climate footprint of Europe’s buildings, which account for over 30% of the EU’s environmental impact, 42% of energy use, and 35% of greenhouse gas emissions. To make buildings more sustainable by 2050, the report recommends prioritizing #renovation, using low-impact materials, promoting #circularconstruction & enhancing climate resilience. It also calls for a holistic policy approach covering the entire building life cycle - from #construction to #demolition. 🎯 One key takeaway: #sustainability must go hand in hand with affordable housing. Announcing HUST as Reincarnate's New Partner 🙌 We are excited to welcome Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) as a new #partner within our consortium, officially introduced at the 5th General Assembly in Belgrade on October 10-11. We’re pleased to highlight the work done by our partner, DEMO Consultants, as part of the research carried out within Reincarnate. 👏 They have developed a pipeline that automates the extraction of #data from structured (e.g., IFC) and unstructured documents (e.g., PDFs), transforming it into a structured #knowledgegraph using advanced NLP and OCR techniques. 👁️🗨️ This system identifies key #buildingcomponents, materials, and defects, mapping their relationships to derive valuable insights. With #GraphRAG integration, users can easily interact with the data using natural language queries, making it more efficient to access crucial information. This advancement significantly enhances our ability to manage complex datasets and supports data-driven decision-making in #construction and #building management. 💪 We look forward to sharing more updates as this technology progresses!

#Deconstruction is emerging as a sustainable alternative to traditional #demolition. Instead of sending materials to landfills, buildings are carefully dismantled, allowing valuable components like beams and window frames to be reused.♻️🏗️ #Materialpassports are key to this process, giving materials an identity and allowing them to be tracked and reused efficiently, preventing wasteful downcycling.
