A spotlight series on the collections and collaborators of our Industry Collections: Today's focus is the Buro Happold collection. It is a collection of materials that their team has both successfully used in projects, and are interested in learning more about in the future. These collections are designed to inspire and promote the sharing of knowledge and best-practices, accelerating the path towards a low-carbon future. Our goal is to empower change and collaboration across the industry in support of bio-based and emerging materials. We really need to keep sharing our findings and failures—something we have traditionally been very bad at in the building industry. I am therefore especially happy that we are able to openly share the selected material palette, including a list of products and manufacturers, for the 'Ripple Residence' project. Here, you can gain insight into the products and their environmental impact. A huge shoutout to revalu for providing the platform and initiating open-source sharing in the industry. Get access to the collection here: https://lnkd.in/dyZWhsX3 (find it under the public collection) The ambition for the project is to achieve the lowest carbon footprint for a Danish multi-story building. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dYya5TSd Thank you to our partners for the collaboration and open-minded thinking: Nrep, 5E Byg A/S, Søren Jensen Rådgivende Ingeniørfirma and the fantastic Henning Larsen team 👍❤️💪 Let's continue with the #opensource thinking.

Can you reimagine your project with lower CO2 life cycle impacts? This is a critical step to start making material selections that don't jeopardize planetary and human health. Sharing some inspiration for product choices that have lower environmental impacts. revalu has lined-up some fabulous innovative and industry collections, presenting readily available embodied CO2 data on the products we should all be considering closely. https://lnkd.in/dG6viQdn Henning Larsen Kika Brockstedt Ernst von Stegmann und Stein Leila Diana Behjat Alison Mears Kritika Kharbanda Troels Dam Madsen

"To me, sustainability means balancing economic, social, and environmental value and understanding their interrelation. More than half of all economic activity is highly dependent on nature and its services. We must become more conscious of our actions and their impacts." — Christina Haupt Toft Christina Haupt Toft is the founder of Circle Consulting, a consultancy that integrates construction and biodiversity to benefit businesses and society. With 15 years of experience in finance and construction, Christina has focused the last five on sustainability and biodiversity in the built environment. Among her achievements is the development of a national method for city nature mapping in extensive collaboration within the industry, including ConTech Lab - en del af Molio. Addressing sustainability challenges in the built environment, Christina highlights the complexity and the novelty of incorporating nature-focused approaches in traditional economic sectors. She emphasises the pivotal role of financial institutions in driving sustainability by incentivising nature-positive assets and discusses the need for innovative construction materials and methods in response to raw material scarcity. 👉 Read the full article on our Journal: https://lnkd.in/ep_6ikNN

Denmark is set to implement stricter climate requirements for the construction sector starting July 1, 2025. New buildings will need to adhere to a maximum CO2e emission limit of 7.1 kg/m²/year. These regulations will impact all stages of construction and apply to a wider range of buildings, including unheated structures over 50 m² and extensions to multi-story residences and offices. "The new requirements just make it even more important to focus on construction and choice of materials in the very early phases of a project. (...) That is why we have entered into a collaboration with revalu," says Cameline Bolbroe, Head of Sustainability and Innovation at KHR Architecture “This collaboration means that our own digital material library is now part of Revalus’s extensive online database, which contains over 12,000 materials and products. This makes our work with material choices more efficient and tangible, while allowing us to better compare different solutions and assess their performance from a sustainability perspective,” explains Cameline Bolbroe. 👉 Read more about our work together with KHR Architecture here (in Danish): https://lnkd.in/eniGs4eR

Bio-based construction materials have the potential to significantly reduce the construction industry's carbon footprint. However, their implementation faces obstacles such as stringent regulations, scarce availability, and a general lack of awareness, especially in Europe. What can industry participants do to change this? To tackle this question, Joanna Hedley-Smith, Oliver Lerch, and Oliver Stainton from the Urban C3.0 group engaged with external collaborators and industry experts to draw on their insights. Together with Katrine Juul (Henning Larsen), Duncan Horswill (Ramboll), Felix Wierschbitzki (raumlabor berlin and SLAB), Daniel Maskell (University of Bath) and Nyomi Rowsell (Buro Happold) we discussed and exchanged insights on these pressing topics. The key findings are summarised in this article by Buro Happold: https://lnkd.in/erKDhwGS

Belgian Pavilion at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia In "In Vivo", Bento and Vinciane Despret question our system of extractivist production by identifying and developing construction alternatives using materials derived from living organisms and the imagery that accompanies them. Their installation experiments with natural, living materials, including raw earth and mycelium (the vegetative part of fungi) on a large scale, while the Pavilion catalogue explores our future condition in light of this little-known world. In the central room, the curators use natural, living materials, experimenting with the installation of panels of mycelium (the vegetative part of fungi) in a spectacular wooden structure (12m long x 6m wide x 6m high) and resting on a floor of raw earth from excavated soil. This provides an opportunity for visitors to experience the sensory, tactile, acoustic and poetic characteristics of these materials. Mycelium, wood and earth all stem from the urban area of Brussels with a view to an ultra-local, sustainable supply. The structure has been designed to be specifically dismantled and its elements will be given a second life in Venice by the local company Re-Biennale, which has been appointed to assemble and dismantle the installation. The "In vivo" pavilion will provide a time and a place for critical thinking, particularly because questions of responsibility, of taking into account other beings and of justice will be discussed in relation to living and structures.
