Reference project of the month - the McDonough House, Knoxville, USA The Loghaven Artist Residency is a multidisciplinary retreat located on a sprawling 90-acre campus just two miles from downtown Knoxville. The site features six historic log cabins dating back to the 1930s, which have been meticulously restored into residences for visiting artists. Completed in 2020, this building, known as the McDonough House, serves as the operational hub of the residency and provides additional resources to support the creative pursuits of resident artists. From the outset, the project’s design goals emphasized a thoughtful balance between honoring the historic character of the site and introducing contemporary elements. The design team sought to distinguish the new building from the existing log cabins while creating a harmonious dialogue between the two. By drawing inspiration from the original cabins’ siting, scale, and materials, the McDonough House reflects the heritage of Loghaven while presenting a refined, modern aesthetic. Key features of the design include a shift from rustic materials to more polished finishes. The cabins’ rubble stone foundations were reimagined with cut bluestone, while the rough log walls were replaced with a milled, bleached Accoya rainscreen system, cut to precise dimensions to align with the new building’s 12-foot structural grid. Windows, in contrast to the small, irregularly placed openings of the original cabins, stretch to 9 feet tall, filling 12-foot-wide openings that match the grid. It stands as a striking example of how thoughtful design can bridge past and present, providing a space that complements the site’s history while supporting the creative aspirations of the artists who call it home. Carnival Celebrations at RHEINZINK 🎭🎉 It’s that time of year again! We were delighted to welcome the children from Meckinghoven Primary School to celebrate the annual carnival parade together. From our festively decorated float, we handed out sweets to the young revellers, bringing joy and excitement to this special tradition. A true highlight was the candy toss from the balcony of our RHEINZINK villa. Carnival, often referred as the "fifth season," holds deep cultural significance, especially in the Ruhr region, where we have our headquarters in Datteln. It is a time of celebrations, colourful costumes and cheerful music - an opportunity to step away from everyday life and enjoy the festivities as a community. For us as a company, this event is a wonderful way to demonstrate our strong ties to the region and its traditions. Taking place every year on the Friday before Carnival Monday, it is always a highlight for both our employees and the children. We are proud to be part of this cherished tradition and are already looking forward to next year’s celebrations. May the fifth season continue to bring people together and create unforgettable moments! Wishing all revellers a fantastic carnival season! 🎊

Innovative Zinc Architecture: Where Aesthetics Meet Longevity Private House DOM K, Bratislava is more than form—it is the art of harmonizing materiality, functionality and longevity. At Private House DOM K, the RHEINZINK-prePATINA graphite-grey double standing seam roof (160 m², 1.2 t) and angle standing seam façade (100 m², 1 t) embody this principle, delivering a refined, enduring and low-maintenance building envelope. Zinc’s natural patination process allows for a self-healing surface that enhances its resistance to environmental influences while evolving aesthetically over time. The seamless integration of roof and façade creates a cohesive architectural statement, where material and design engage in an organic dialogue. For architects and engineers seeking a balance between innovation, sustainability and timeless aesthetics, RHEINZINK offers a solution that goes beyond conventional building materials. Build with a material that ages with dignity and stands the test of time.

Integrating Sustainability with Precision: RHEINZINK-PV in Modern Architecture The stunning single-family home on Vienna’s Heuberg demonstrates how sustainability and design can go hand in hand. At the heart of this remarkable project is the innovative integration of RHEINZINK-PV – a photovoltaic solution designed specifically for standing seam roofs. RHEINZINK-PV modules are ultra-flat, roof-parallel, and blend seamlessly with the sharp-edged geometry of the building. This allows for optimal energy efficiency without compromising the elegance of the architectural design. These solar panels create a visually striking line pattern that underscores precision and modernity, elevating both form and function. Beyond aesthetics, RHEINZINK-PV exemplifies the potential of sustainable building practices. Rear-ventilated and flush-mounted, the photovoltaic system discreetly supports the building’s energy needs while maintaining its minimalist design.

Reference project of the month - House Krantz, Leipzig, Germany We’re excited to share our latest project: the renovation and extension of House Krantz in Leipzig, originally designed by renowned architect Horst Krantz. Built in 1975, this modernist house has been carefully restored and updated to balance energy efficiency with its architectural heritage. The addition of a third triangular structure at the rear, featuring RHEINZINK-GRANUM basalte, integrates seamlessly into the existing design. Preserving iconic elements like the exposed aggregate clinker bricks, it reimagined the interior to create an open, light-filled living space. This project proves that respecting history and meeting modern standards can go hand in hand. What are your thoughts on blending tradition with innovation? Let us know in the comments!
