Empowering women in tourism for a sustainable future! 🌍💪 sequa gGmbH is proud to have joined key discussions at ITB2025 and taken a strong step by signing the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles. Exciting times ahead with new partnerships and upcoming initiatives! 🚀🙌
Head of IPD | International Trade Specialist | Import Promotion Sustainability | Supply Chain Management | Development Cooperation Sourcing | Knowledge Management
🌍💪 ITB 2025 with a strong focus on Female Empowerment as a Key Driver for Sustainable Development! Women play a crucial role in shaping a sustainable and equitable future – especially in tourism! I am more than happy that I got the chance to discuss this topic and share experiences with Aayusha Prasain and Catherine Gallagher with a huge audience during our network event the first day of the trade show. The feedback about the insights of our 'Women in Global Trade programme' was great and new networks have already been built. ✍🎊 The next day, sequa gGmbH and therefore IPD - Import Promotion Desk, together with a variety of other actors from the German tourism sector, took entrepreneurial responsibility and sent a strong signal to the industry by signing the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs)! This step was duly recognized through various statements during the event 'Tourism Industry Leaders Endorse the Women's Empowerment Principles' as part of the ITB Congress. Additionally, Nora Eichkorn and I discussed with Santiago Granda from the Ministerio de Turismo Ecuador how to support more companies from Ecuador - especially with a focus on women and a strong vision for the coming years. 🚀🙌 Looking forward to our next activities in the tourism sector: FAM Trips to Nepal and Sri Lanka as well as WTM in London! Stay tuned :) Photo credits: Dominik Butzmann / Photothek + IPD.

2025 MADE Buyers Forum Last week, the 2nd edition of the Buyers Forum took place in Yangon under the framework of the EU-funded MADE project. The Forum brought together a growing network of stakeholders - incl. ca. 270 total participants from labour rights organisations, retailers, social compliance professionals, and representatives from the various diplomatic missions - demonstrating the industry's continued commitment to improving labour conditions and industry standards in Myanmar. This year's edition provided an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the achievements of MADE in Myanmar during its first 2 years. · Retailer engagement growth: The number of participating garment brands increased from 3 to 27, reflecting a broader commitment to responsible sourcing and sustainable practices. These retailers source from approx. 165 factories in Myanmar which recently employ 215,000 individuals (89% of which women). · Enhanced worker training: Over the past years, comprehensive training programs were rolled out, equipping factory workers and management with essential skills in labour rights and workplace safety. · Strengthened grievance mechanisms: Significant strides were made in improving access to grievance channels, including the introduction of hotline services, ensuring workers have a safe and confidential platform to voice concerns. Several hundred grievances were received, monitored and addressed by the project, and its members/ affiliates. There were allegations in social media of 462 labour rights abuses between Aug. 2023 and Dec. 2024. 81% of cases where rights abuses were alleged did not involve MADE member supplier units. In the 19% of cases where MADE supplier units were involved, the project investigated all cases, either directly by the participating brand or via project staff or a joint investigation. · Collaborative action on economic challenges: Stakeholders discussed progress in addressing inflation and rising living costs through collective efforts aimed at wage adjustments and improved working conditions. Wages emerged repeatedly during the conference discussions as an area where improvement is swiftly needed. As we reflect on the progress made this year, let us continue working together to build a resilient, responsible garment industry in Myanmar, where worker rights are protected, the environment is respected and standards of decent work are upheld. #ResponsibleBusiness #LabourRights #MyanmarGarmentIndustry #SustainableGrowth #EuropeanCommission The Multi-stakeholder Alliance for Decent Employment in Myanmar (‘MADE in Myanmar’) is a 4-year project (12/22-12/26) which is primarily funded by the #EuropeanUnion, co-funded by private sector retailers, with the objective of strengthening responsible business practices in the textile, clothing and footwear sector, achieving critical industry improvements and protecting livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of families. Implemented by sequa gGmbH together with EuroCham Myanmar
