Are you #mono or #poly? Did you know that you can separate "monochronic" and "polychronic" cultures? The concepts popularized by #anthropologist Edward T. Hall in his 1959 book "The Silent Language." describes different approaches to time and how it influences social interactions, organization, and work habits. In #MonochronicCultures people prefer to focus on one task at a time. They value orderliness and structured environments, where activities are planned and executed in a sequential manner. Interruptions during tasks or meetings can be seen as disrespectful. In #PolychronicCultures people tend to engage in multiple tasks simultaneously and may switch back and forth between them which often leads to a more informal and adaptable work style.

Have you heard about the #GreenDeal #IndustrialPlan, the Critical #RawMaterials Act or the #NetZero Industry Act? With these activities the European Commission is pushing for chance and transformation in the coal and steel industry that shaped Europe for centuries. #Coal was the primary energy source in Europe, accounting for almost 70% of fuel consumption. The #steel sector in the EU has an annual #turnover of €166 billion, is responsible for 1.3% of EU GDP, and provides 328 000 direct #jobs. #GreenDeel

Last week Startup Colors was part of a delegation to #Mykolaiv, #Ukraine. And the City of Heroes - as it is referred to by Oleksandr Syenkevych, Mayor of Mykolaiv - did live up to this name. We did indeed meet many heroes: Under daily & nightly air alerts that distract the flow of daily life and apparent normality they keep going. There were the brave students of three of Mykolaiv’s Universities who showed up on a Saturday to present their research and projects from shipbuilding to agriculture and from ai to history. They do not let the rockets that targeted their universities stop them from building the future. Looking forward to see ukraimpulse ventures building a network of german and ukrainian #businessangels to invest in promising founders in Mykolaiv! We met all the impressive girls who participated in the #GirlsinSTEM project organized Hanna Slobodyanyuk-Montavon and Mykolaiv Water Hub (MWH). They showed their self-conducted research and experiments like they had been doing this for all of their life! No further pitch-training needed! You all did an amazing job and we are looking forward to see your bright minds enlightening this world! And, of course, we met the healthcare heroes of Mykolaiv, who work tirelessly through days & nights. Visiting the local hospital and rehabilitation center showed us how deeply the war affects both physical and mental health in so many ways. Thank you for welcoming us so warmly. And thank you for sharing your time, energy, and delicious food with us, even when you have so much else on your plate! It was incredible to see the potential in this city and also how Oleksandr Syenkevych, Mayor of Mykolaiv, Dmytro Falko and the whole amazing team of the City are working together and not giving up! A huge thank you to Hanna Slobodyanyuk-Montavon, CEO of Mykolaiv Water Hub (MWH) for organizing this trip and everyone in the background who made this possible, who drove us around, guided our group through these days, took care of all the details and made sure no one got lost. Thanks to the people of Mykolaiv who welcomed us so kindly and generous! And shoutout to the good company we kept on this journey: Eva Majewski, Sylvie Chin, Thomas Brömme, Michael Hübner, Sebastian Schwenke, Stefan Schandera, Eduardo Sotelo We are looking forward to not loose momentum but see these connections turn into fruitful cooperations. Let’s see what we can achieve within the next months!

Last week, our team 🇺🇦 Maren Lesche and Pauline Bewerunge 🦦 had the privilege to be part of a small delegation to Mykolaiv for the Mykolaiv Water Hub (MWH) project. The project is trying to find solutions because Mykolaiv has been cut off from reliable water supply after the Russian army deliberately destroyed the 70 km long water main that provided fresh water from the Dnipro River to the city. It's hard to put into words the depth of the experience and the resilience of the people we met. Despite the immense challenges they face, their spirit of optimism and forward-looking attitude is something that truly inspired all of us. We spent a lot of time with Oleksandr Syenkevych, Mayor of Mykolaiv, and his team are so committed to rebuilding their city and attracting investors to the city. It's simply incredible.
Last week I had the honour of accompanying a small delegation to Mykolaiv, and I am still processing all the impressions. What really impressed and touched me was the attitude of the people. No matter how bad the situation is at the moment, they always look ahead. The main reason for the trip was the Mykolaiv Water Hub (MWH) project. The project is trying to find solutions because Mykolaiv has been cut off from reliable water supply after the Russian army deliberately destroyed the 70 km long water main that provided fresh water from the Dnipro River to the city. Thanks you Hanna for the invite. We spent a lot of time with Oleksandr Syenkevych, Mayor of Mykolaiv, and he and his team are so committed to rebuilding their city and attracting investors to the city. It's simply incredible. I hope I have the chance to produce a documentary about it. Anyway, I will definitely go back to Mykolaiv and see how I can support and I can only recommend that everyone also considers how they can support Ukraine. For example, for business angels, there is ukraimpulse ventures. 🇺🇦 Maren Lesche, Eva Majewski, Pauline Bewerunge, Sylvie Chin, Sebastian Schwenke, Stefan Schandera, Michael Hübner

💦 25.09-27.09 - Makeathon: "Circular Water Supply" @ Transferale 💦 Join the Makeathon by BHT Startup Hub at the #Transferale with the central goal of jointly designing circular construction methods and sustainable ways of supplying water in #Berlin. Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/e2z_NBYT 💧Drinking water is a valuable and increasingly scarce resource that is often used for applications such as outdoor irrigation, washing cars and flushing toilets. An increasing shortage of drinking water is predicted for Berlin due to various factors, which could lead to restrictions on its use. At the same time, climate-related heavy rainfall events are increasing, with rainwater in urban areas often running off unused and uncontrolled, causing increased damage to infrastructure and property. 💧 Against this backdrop, concepts such as ‘sponge cities’, ‘blue-green infrastructure’ and ‘zero runoff areas’ are increasingly coming into focus. Projects such as the ringberlin model campus are already implementing initial measures, such as the construction of cisterns and the unsealing of areas that serve as park-like recreational spaces and at the same time absorb rainwater and contribute to cooling. Bring your innovative concepts for sustainable rainwater management for urban areas such as the ringberlin model campus. You can contribute your own research results or solutions or research and adapt existing approaches. ringberlin will serve as a model to visualise your concepts spatially. Participants become part of the ringberlin community, and selected concepts have the chance to be further developed in collaboration with ringberlin. We are looking for realisable, impact-oriented and creative concepts (TRL 6+) that can serve as a model for other urban development areas in Berlin and beyond.
