🌍 Successful Round Table on the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) in Brussels! Last week, a significant Round Table on the #EUDR took place, featuring high-ranking representatives from forestry, politics, and industry. We are particularly pleased that our colleague Alexander Gero F. was involved in this important discussion to underline the challenges for the packaging industry! A big thank you to the Bayerisches Wirtschaftsministerium and the vbw – Vereinigung der Bayerischen Wirtschaft e. V. . It's great news that the EU Commission proposed a 12-month postponement of the EUDR implementation on the same day. This still requires approval from the European Parliament and the European Council to become official. but we are very optimistic as this extension would provide companies and farmers with much-needed time to prepare for the new requirements. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗔𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆: 🕚 Postponement of Implementation Date (subject to the approval of EU Parliament and EU Council): The EUDR will now come into effect on December 30, 2025, for large companies and June 30, 2026, for small businesses. 💪 Practical Support: A guidance document for implementation was presented to help companies efficiently meet the new requirements. 🌍 Country Risk Assessment: By June 30, 2025, the country benchmarking, which classifies countries or parts of countries into three categories (high, normal, and low risk), should be established. 📜 Reduced Reporting Obligations: Companies will not be required to disclose all information across their entire supply chain, alleviating bureaucratic burdens. We are optimistic that these advancements will help address the challenges posed by the EUDR for the packaging industry while ensuring the protection of our forests. 🌳💚 BUT: If the EUDR content is not significantly more balanced and differentiated, a one-year delay will not advance our discussions, as we would face the same issues again next year. Similar to the planned relaxation of the Supply Chain Act (keyword: Deregulation and Bureaucracy Reduction Act), the same approach must apply to the EUDR and other ESG regulations to halt the ongoing deindustrialization in Germany and Europe. #EUDR #Sustainability #Packaging #regulation
