🐈 The cat's out of the bag. A little more than a week ago, we announced that Fabrice Zumbrunnen, former CEO of MIGROS and now CEO of AEVIS VICTORIA SA, joined us as our new Chairman. We don't do the slow lane around here—the Q3 board meeting with him is already in the books, and there are a lot of exciting things happening! Namely: 🚀 Europe’s awakening? It’s been a tough year for Europe, with Germany’s recession weighing heavily, but we’re noticing a shift. Growth ambitions are starting again, and we’re ready to take advantage. 🚀 Unstucking growth Growth can feel like fighting gravity—corporate structures and past successes often hold businesses back. Jan has been exploring this idea in-depth, and it’s evolved into a big project (starting from a short article, it’s now a 60-page deep dive and counting!). Keep an eye out for our upcoming publication—it’s going to be a must-read for everyone dealing with the corporate growth conundrum. 🛠 The Stryber positioning Yes, we’ve built a lot of ventures, but venture building isn’t who we are at our core. We blend startup agility with the scale and platforms of established companies to create real impact. It’s time to clarify our message and move beyond the “venture builder” label—we're tailoring a suit that fits us much better. 🤝 Annual Stryber team event Next month, about 100 Stryborgs will gather in a secret location for our annual global event! It will be a great time to reconnect, share ideas, and celebrate what makes us tick while enjoying some well-deserved downtime. What's your favorite location for a team retreat?

It’s time for a reality check: Business models ARE NOT eternal! Various factors, such as the economic crisis and digital transformation, force companies to adapt their course and change their strategy to stay relevant in the long run. But HOW can companies ensure long-term growth when market conditions collapse? 🤔 The answer is: DIVERSIFICATION. In our recent study, we analyzed the performance of 1,092 European companies since 2020 and found that adopting strategic diversification leads to higher stock market returns. Specifically, corporates who diversified their businesses with new revenue streams managed to increase  their average annual shareholder value by over 50%  compared to those that didn’t. Putting all your eggs in one basket with just one revenue stream can leave you at the mercy of market changes and makes it harder to bounce back from economic bumps. 🚀 Are companies missing out on success by focusing solely on core business? In a recent podcast with Kilian Karrasch, Jan Sedlacek, our Co-founder, discussed the secret sauce of successful corporate innovation. 👉 Most companies we talk to operate with a short-term mindset, leveraging existing resources for immediate competitive advantage instead of planning for the future. Here’s what they do: Assess their existing core business resources and create a strategy to leverage them as quickly as possible into a new business model, assuming this will give them a true competitive advantage. The problem with this logic: it forces them to stick to what they’ve always done. Here’s the thought exercise Jan suggests instead: Don’t focus on the resources you can leverage today, but think about what resources you can bring to a new venture 2 or 3 years from now, if that business becomes successful. 🎧 Want to dive deeper? 🔍 Is diversification the key to long-term business growth for corporates? After the success of our yearly diversification study in EU, we’ve analyzed 651 companies in Southeast Asia. Different data set, same findings: Corporates that focus solely on their core business destroy long-term shareholder value.  Here is a sneak peek of our key takeaways: 🔹 Higher returns in challenging times During the turbulent period of 2020-2023, non-diversified companies suffered an 85% loss in shareholder returns, whereas diversified companies limited their losses to 63%. 🔹 Inertia challenge  Large companies often struggle with active inertia, executing changes using tried-and-tested methods under outdated assumptions, which hinders effective diversification. If you want to dive deeper into the data, download the report via the link in the comments!👇  #corporateventurebuilding #innovation #diversification

Failure is a part of every journey, and our Co-Founder, Jan Sedlacek has experienced it firsthand throughout his career. Each failure brought invaluable lessons, much like progressing through increasingly challenging levels in a video game. Here are some key lessons from his journey: 🔑 Lesson 1: Product-market-fit Starting his first company during high school in the mid-1990s, Jan created websites for small businesses. Later, he joined a leading web agency and worked on projects like the first online real estate platform for a bank—his first big project. It failed miserably because no one wanted a real estate platform. The key takeaway: You must build products that solve actual customer problems, not just what you want to offer. 📈 Lesson 2: The consulting conundrum As a young consultant at Roland Berger, Jan was puzzled by how much of what he conceptualized never got correctly executed. While cost-cutting mandates were straightforward and delivered results (primarily by recommending lay-offs), most growth strategies failed to achieve impact for clients. 🤖 Lesson 3: The myth of business-model transformation Years of working on "Digital Transformation" in a large corporation led to the conclusion that true business-model transformation is nothing more than a myth. A true "Business Model Transformation" would mean transforming a whole value chain. You simply cannot do that, as it would mean changing EVERYTHING. 👇 Read the full article on Fortune (link in comments) to discover how the entrepreneurship lessons Jan learned on the way concluded in Stryber, which he co-founded with Alex, to help others avoid his same mistakes.
