Are AI powered, virtual influencers generating better engagement rates than traditional human creators with their brand endorsements? AI technology has already brought some dramatic changes to #creatormarketing - none more than the advent of AI influencers - virtual beings who look, sound, and post just like human beings. The rise of AI powered #influencers is intriguing to brands, but also triggers some fundamental questions: if a #creator is entirely fictional, can they still inspire the same emotional bond with their followers? And can brands still expect the same results they normally see from campaigns with human #creators? To answer these questions, CreatorIQ analysed recent #influencermarketing campaigns where global brands collaborated with 4 famous AI influencers: Aitana Lopez (319.2k followers on Instagram) collaborating with OLAPLEX, Victoria´s Secret , BALENCIAGA, Fortnite, Nike and Patagonia. Imma Gram (388.5k followers on Instagram) posting about Coach handbags. Lil Miquela (2.5M followers on Instagram) endorsing the new all electric BMW iX2. Noonoouri (450k followers on Instagram) collaborating with Warner Music Group on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok. The team at CreatorIQ found that content from #AI and virtual influencers tends to garner lower Engagement Rates than content from human influencers. In fact, campaigns tend to perform similar to celebrity endorsements: a small percentage of a large follower population like, comment, and share these influencers’ content, while most #socialmedia users look on in curiosity. For now, the aesthetics and posting styles established by human #creators remain the surest source of authentic engagement on social media.
