The preliminary visit to Mrs. Barbara Naumburg's restoration workshop a few weeks ago was already exciting. The visit with the delegation from #Yamagata was even more exciting. This time, Mrs. Barbara Naumburg gave us a tour of her workshop. She told us about her extraordinary career as a carpenter and restorer. She also passes on her knowledge to future carpenters and restorers. Since 2005, she has trained five female and two male carpenters in her workshop, which she founded in 1994. In her experience, women are better suited than men for restoration work, which is sometimes very delicate and requires much patience. An intense week lies behind us. The delegation from Yamagata has been back in Japan since Monday. Rarely have we experienced such a well-prepared delegation. The winners of the Hessian Women Entrepreneurs‘ Award 2024, Barbara and Erika Bär, with their historic Odenwald inn “Zum grünen Baum”, impressed us so much during the award ceremony, which took place on the 23rd Hessian Women Entrepreneurs’ Day that we decided to visit them. Finally, last Saturday, we drove there and were not disappointed. On the contrary, everything we found confirmed the overall positivity that Barbara and Erika Bär exuded. From the ambience of the historic inn to the delicious food and amiable staff, the mother-and-daughter duo successfully led their close to 340-year-old family business into the future, beautifully showing how tradition, inclusivity and diversity work together. The Yamagata Prefecture delegation trip focuses on environmental issues, among other things. Finding a way out of the throwaway society is becoming increasingly important. In this context, repair cafés are an excellent example of how we can put resource conservation into practice. Last Friday was a day of celebration and acknowledgement. What did we celebrate? Female entrepreneurship! For the 23rd time, the Hessian Women Entrepreneurs' Day was held under the motto, "InternationaliSIErung", a wordplay on internationalization, highlighting and promoting the role of women entrepreneurs on a global and local scale. For even longer, 40 years to be exact, jumpp – Ihr Sprungbrett in die Selbständigkeit, Frauenbetriebe e. V. has enabled women and men on their journey to self-employment. Thanks to Polly Yu from Wirtschaftsförderung Frankfurt GmbH introducing me to Jumpp, I had the opportunity to attend the event and expand my network. On the panel, I spoke about the experience of setting up my company and the challenges that Japanese women still face when starting a business in Germany.
