As the excitement from the Olympics closing ceremony settles, it’s time to reflect on the tremendous effort behind the games, especially last-mile logistics. Spectators, athletes, and local residents increased city traffic and posed a significant challenge for the industry. Paris implemented extensive measures to manage traffic and reduce the carbon footprint 🌍: ✔️ A dedicated task force focused on delivery synchronization and waste management. ✔️ Vehicle access was limited to certain areas, with many central roads, especially those near venues, being closed. ✔️ To relieve inner-city traffic further, central transshipment points were established outside the city, allowing smaller vehicles to handle the last-mile delivery. This required route adaptations and often led to higher costs for couriers and direct deliveries. Advanced algorithms and real-time tracking with Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) features helped optimize logistics flows and refine delivery schedules, ensuring timely arrivals despite congestion and environmental restrictions. More climate protection, less bureaucray – a new measure catalog by the German Road Freight Transport Commission. The German Road Freight Transport Commission handed over a catalog of measures with 24 proposals to German transport minister Volker Wissing last week. The aim is to reduce burdens on the logistic industry, digitalize processes, and also help the sector to become more environmentally friendly 🚚 ✈️🌍. The proposed package of measures includes: - easier qualification of professional drivers and driver licenses - optimization of processes for heavy transports - elimination of competitive disadvantages when it comes to import turnover taxes The commission had been founded after protests from the logistics sector in January. To relieve the industry, the German transport minister had already launched a new funding package in May. This funding program is based on the following three topics: - increase in subsidies for safety and environmental measures (e.g. assistance systems or systems for reducing emission particles) - new funding pots for the installation of charging infrastructures - more money for the purchase of vehicle components, which reduce energy consumption and emissions There may already be initial successes to be presented at transport logistic 2025, June 2 - 5; stay tuned for the newest development. #Logistics #CleanLogistics #Transport #Freight #transportlogistic

Logistics Real Estate: The Backbone of Modern Supply Chains 📈 In the first half of 2024, Germany's top 8 logistics markets saw a 17.2 % increase, with 1.13 million sqm leased or acquired, according to REALOGIS. Demand for logistics and industrial space reached a record low in 2023. The first half of 2024 has now seen an increase, signaling a trend reversal. However, it is worth noting that it was still the second weakest first half-year since 2014. 🚛 The logistics sector accounts for the largest share of industrial space in Germany, at 35.4 % in 2024. This is closely followed by trade, accounting for 34.5 %. In view of these figures, it is clear that logistics is heavily dependent on suitable real estate. The latest Next Generation report by Startup-Verband and startupdetector indicates a positive trend in startup formation. During the first half of 2024, Germany experienced a 15% increase in new start-ups, suggesting an overall trend reversal. The software sector is especially booming – one in five new startups are in this field, more than ever before! Increasing digitalization, the high demand for innovative software and the use of artificial intelligence in particular are driving this development. Start-ups in this area are developing new solutions that enable productivity increases and efficiency gains.
