📬 I’ve compiled a round-up of Village One project updates, outlining what kept us busy, including some small announcements. Find a summary below or read the whole thing right here: https://lnkd.in/dTBPRnyE Side note: When we started Village One we hoped to find clients as progressive as we aspired to be. We hoped our own structure as a worker-owned cooperative and our strong values would resonate with similarly minded organisations out there. And now, 2.5 years later, looking at that newsletter, it seems some of that might have worked out? Kinda cool, how almost all projects and collaborations are about working for the common good, empowerment, strengthening democracy and journalism, open-source/data and running an honest business. It’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture when the daily hustle takes over – as a team we constantly worry about the next projects, the financial outlook, how to balance project work with internal initiatives, … it can feel like a struggle and become quite overwhelming at times. Writing this newsletter helped me to take a step back and see the bigger context again. And it seems some of what we hoped for actually panned out? That’s cool. Thank you for being on this journey with me, Dorothée + Christoph + Zhuo-Fei + Sev + Julia + all the amazing organisations who decided to team up and support us. 🥲

„OMG, that’s really very long, isn’t it? - das sagte unser Code-Zauberer Sev Furneaux von Village One als wir das Prototyp unseres WW2-Projektes gemeinsam angeschaut haben. Ja, die Länge der Texte und Komplexität des Themas waren und sind in unserem Projekt eine extreme Herausforderung. Welche Lösungen wir gefunden haben, erzählen Peggy Lohse und ich in einem kleinen Interview für das Grimme-Institut .

The wonderful people from Sovereign Tech Fund are hosting an event all about open-source software and bug bounties on Monday (Sept 30th) at silent green! I’m hearing there are still a few tickets available – it’s free of charge and there will be lots of interesting guests to meet, including the STF team. I’ll also be there, so why not stop by? (Nina Bender designed the accompanying report with us at Village One and I can’t wait to flip through the physical copy on Monday!)

One week ago, the new Publix house for #journalism and #democracy opened its doors in Berlin! We’ve been working with the Publix team since our very own Village One beginnings; making them one of our very first project partners. Oooh, our recent project with dekoder.org was just nominated for a Grimme Online Award. 🥳

Two weeks ago, we launched “My Community Talks” with ZEIT ONLINE—a platform that hosts dialogue events and brings people together to discuss interesting topics from society, business and communities. Village One designed the registration forms, built a brand-new participant dashboard where conversation partners can chat and arrange their meetings easily, and we worked (under the hood) on easy-to-use functions for event management and matching functionalities. The first event on the “My Community Talks” platform is for entrepreneurs, to discuss “business, politics, and social responsibility”.
