💡 Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited our colleagues at Volkswagen Infotainment GmbH, during his recent trip to the Ruhr area to see the latest #innovations. #Connectivity is at the core of the Software Defined Vehicle. It makes vehicles smarter, safer, and more responsive. We were privileged to show the Chancellor our advanced connectivity solutions such as the Online Connectivity Units (OCU) in the development hall. 💬 "Volkswagen Infotainment’s solutions illustrate how today’s and tomorrow’s vehicles are becoming safer and user-friendlier. Using the most modern technology, a substantial contribution to safer streets and climate-friendlier traffic is made here. It is a good example of how a tradition-rich company like Volkswagen can successfully set itself up for the future and can in so doing react in an agile fashion to market trends", said Chancellor Olaf Scholz. 👩🏻💻 Approximately 26 million Volkswagen Group vehicles are equipped with these Online Connectivity Units (OCU). OCUs connect the vehicle to the Internet and enable functions such as emergency calls, #charging functions or over-the-air updates.

DAC - Direct Air Capture: All about innovation 🚀 ❓ Wouldn't it be more than fascinating if we could capture the CO₂ trapped in our atmosphere? And wouldn’t it be even more fascinating if we could reuse that captured CO₂? That’s what we at Volkswagen Group Innovation thought - and so we put it to the test, introducing: the Direct Air Capture System- DAC! 🎯 The Goal: Our DAC system cleanses ambient air, extracts CO₂, and purifies it for reuse. This captured CO₂ can then be transformed into synthetic eFuels, enabling nearly carbon-neutral operation of internal combustion engine vehicles. 🌎 Sustainability in Action: In partnership with Porsche AG, HIF Global, and MAN Energy Solutions, we are building a prototype plant at the Haru Oni Demonstration facility in Chile. This plant will test DAC technology and produce eFuels from renewable energy sources, furthering our commitment to a sustainable future. #innovation #fmd #decarbonization #sustainability #volkswagengroup

🌊 Bentley Motors has announced funding for a significant environmental initiative - the restoration of kelp forests in California! The Californian environmental project is supported by SeaTrees, one of the founding partners of the newly formed Bentley Environmental Foundation. The foundation was established in 2023 as part of the company's #Beyond100 strategy to focus on global sustainability issues. ❓ Why is action needed? Climate change has led to the loss of more than 90% of California's kelp, exacerbated by the disappearance of sunflower stars and the proliferation of purple sea urchins. An innovative aspect of the project is the use of lab-grown sunflower stars to rebalance the trophic food web and regulate the purple sea urchin population that threatens the kelp. The projects funded by the foundation will also help restore and monitor kelp forests in three key locations, creating favourable conditions for kelp growth. 💚 Why is this important? Kelp plays a crucial role in combating climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide from both the atmosphere and the ocean, and it serves as a natural habitat for marine life. 🌍 As such, the California project is an important part of Bentley's journey towards a carbon neutral future.

⏰ Time to celebrate two years as the Volkswagen Group's Human Rights Officer: Dr. Kerstin Waltenberg reflects on her last 730 days. 😲 What surprised her? The different interpretations of the role of the Human Rights Officer (HRO) under the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG). While the law prescribes a monitoring role, many companies delegate implementation to HROs, leading to conflicts of interest. Despite the challenges, most companies are striving to meet the requirements of the LkSG. ❔ What were her expectations? The LkSG brings both opportunities and risks. Transparency allows for process improvements, but different interpretations can make compliance seem daunting. What's next? Stay tuned for more insights into the tasks, challenges and strategies her team is developing.

🔋 Second Life: How used Taycan batteries became energy storage for the Leipzig plant. With the "Second Life" concept, Porsche AG is demonstrating how used high-voltage batteries from electric vehicles can be put to good use in a second phase of use and help conserve resources. It’s almost as big as two basketball courts! What makes this stationary energy storage system special is that it was built using used Taycan batteries from pre-series and factory vehicles. Alwin Schmid, Head of Electrical Engineering at Porsche, explains the aims of the project: “In this unprecedented model project, we were able to combine a number of different goals, including peak load capping, optimisation of self-consumption and simultaneous participation in the energy market.” Check out the technical specifications, they are impressive: ⚡ Up to 20% short-term overload capability ⚡ 4,400 individual battery modules, divided into four battery containers ⚡ 5 megawatts with an energy content of 10 megawatt-hours - the total capacity This versatility makes the Porsche pilot project unique in the field of industrial energy storage. What do you think of this technology?
