Supporting Digital Education – Shaping the Future! 💻 With a fully loaded car, our colleagues Sven Mißfeldt and Katja Zänker handed over 36 laptops to the Hacker School. They will now be used there for programming courses for children and young people. The laptops were decommissioned by our IT team due to their age but are still fully functional. Our IT Service Desk team securely wiped the devices, restored them to factory settings, and equipped them with power adapters and laptop bags. What does the Hacker School do? 🔹 It inspires children and young people to explore IT and coding – no prior knowledge required. 🔹 Participants learn directly from IT professionals in engaging courses. 🔹 They quickly develop their own projects and discover the endless possibilities of the digital world. 🔎 Inside VTG: First-hand insights from Lidia’s onboarding experience Meet Lidia from our Management Systems & Safety team! 🙌 As part of her onboarding process, she had the opportunity to accompany external audits across various locations, from our Headquarters in Hamburg, to our location in Bitterfeld and even as far as our workshop Les Ateliers de Joigny in France. One of the highlights of Lidia’s onboarding was the practical experience she gained. Instead of just focusing on theory, she had the chance to observe an external audit firsthand. Lidia was also impressed by how close she got to VTG’s products and operations. Seeing her colleagues’ dedication and hard work in the workshops gave her a deeper insight into the company’s processes. 🎉 Success Story at RailTrain: Seven New Skilled Workers Take Off! In January, a total of seven apprentices from the 2021 intake had to face the big challenge and prove that they were ready to meet the requirements as construction mechanics! 💪 Despite numerous challenges, including: 🔹 Starting their apprenticeship during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic 🔹 Cancelled lessons and training content 🔹 High demands in exam preparation …they showed dedication, perseverance, and outstanding commitment! Our RailTrain project is the only institution of its kind in Hamburg to offer young people with special needs the opportunity to complete a fully qualifying dual vocational training program to become construction mechanics. The program is open to young people who, due to a wide range of social, educational or cultural hurdles, have a harder time finding an apprenticeship than others! A special thanks to our dedicated trainers for their passionate support. 👏 We are proud of this year’s graduates and wish them all the best for their future! ☝️ By the way: This year (as of September 1), we are again hiring up to 10 new construction mechanic apprentices. 🚆 VTG at the 18th BME-/VDV Rail Freight Transport Forum in Berlin The event, held under the motto "Aligning Climate Protection and Consumer Demand – Shifting More Branded Products to Rail!", was a fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas with industry experts about the future of rail freight. Our colleague Tobias Rost contributed valuable insights to the discussion how sensitive goods can be transported efficiently and safely by rail. VTG at MecaTeamCluster and Trophées du Génie Ferroviaire in Paris What a fantastic day at Les Salons Hoche in Paris! At the General Assembly of MecaTeamCluster, our colleague Patrick de Talhouet had the opportunity to present VTG’s activities to all members and highlight our new-built flat wagons, Rens and Faccnpps ballast wagons, soon to be delivered to key players in the french railway infrastructure sector. The level of expertise in this sector is truly remarkable, with great potential across Europe. In line with this, our colleague Thierry Julien-Levisalles was officially appointed as a new board member of the MecaTeamCluster office—congratulations! 🎉 Later that evening, our colleagues attended the first edition of the Trophées du Génie Ferroviaire, organized by Cayola Médias—a fantastic event celebrating innovation in Railway Infrastructure. VTG GmbH acquires the remaining shares in Retrack Slovakia s.r.o. from Rail Services Slovakia s.r.o., becoming the sole owner of Retrack Slovakia and its subsidiaries in Hungary and the Czech Republic. Everything but standard: Challenging conversion of hopper wagons In mid-2023, Nedmag B.V. came to us with an exciting challenge: 35 hopper wagons needed to be modified to enable efficient and dust-free loading and unloading of dolomite lime. 🌪️ Dusty challenge Dust was a significant obstacle, as dolomite lime is an extremely dusty material. To address this, our team developed a new flat slide module that uses pneumatic operation to minimize dust during unloading. Additional electric and pneumatic switches further improved the process, making it as efficient as possible. 🚇 A tunnel too small? Challenge accepted! Another hurdle was the journey itself. The wagons needed to pass through a 120-year-old tunnel that was simply too low for standard hopper wagons. Our engineers rose to the challenge by reducing the wagons’ height to 4.2 meters, ensuring safe passage without compromising functionality. 🤝 Teamwork makes the difference All 35 wagons have been delivered to Nedmag and they are already using our modified wagons very diligently to ensure the transportation of dolomite lime. This project is a great example of seamless collaboration between Technical Support and Sales, showing what is possible when expertise comes together. 🔎 Inside VTG: A Look into the Workshops Our colleague Sebastian Gierhan swapped his workplace in Hamburg for the workshop in Wesseling at Waggonwerk Brühl GmbH for a week. As part of the practical training program, organized by our VTG Academy, he aimed to gain hands-on insights and deepen his knowledge of repair and maintenance processes. During his time in the workshop, Sebastian actively participated in the revision and repair process, gaining valuable insights into brake testing, welding work, and tank inspections. Sebastian’s Highlights: 👉 New Perspectives: A deeper understanding of the repair and revision process. 👉 Interesting Insight: Participation in a brake test and welding work 👉 Memorable Experience: The modern wheelset maintenance operation running in a two-shift system. The training proved to be a valuable experience as it promoted cross-departmental collaboration and provided the opportunity to expand personal networks.
