Vocational trainees with top grades At this year’s SIHK zu Hagen award ceremony in Hagen, Germany, our vocational trainee Marc Florian Preussner was recognized for his outstanding performance in his final examination as a process technologist. Marc spent a very special evening with his father and Marco Luciani, manager vocational training at Waelzholz, and received his award after walking down the red carpet. Outubro Rosa in Brazil As every year, October at Waelzholz Brasmetal is dedicated to breast cancer awareness. During “Outubro Rosa” (“Pink October”), our female Brazilian coworkers are wearing pink clothing to draw attention to the importance of breast cancer prevention and to express their solidarity for those suffering from the disease. This year, the internal medical department on site encouraged our female colleagues to have a preventive check-up. Because early detection increases the chances of survival of this common cancer. Children’s festival at Waelzholz Brasmetal On the occasion of the Brazilian Dia das Crianças (Children’s Day) on October 12, last Saturday Waelzholz Brasmetal in São Paulo invited all of its employees’ children aged 0 to 12 to a party at the site. The approximately 250 children had a lot of fun playing games together, including on a bouncy castle. And if anyone got hungry while romping around, they could enjoy popcorn, cotton candy, and other snacks. The children’s festival that our Brazilian location organizes every two years always has a specific theme. This time, the theme was street games from days gone by. The event also included a performance by a team from the Brazilian breakdance group Breaking Brasil, which Waelzholz Brasmetal has been supporting for several years and which even took part in the Olympic Games this year. Edge processing at Waelzholz Brasmetal   Cold rolled steel strip with machined edges is a specialty of our site in São Paulo, Brazil. One example is cold rolled steel strip for wood band saw blades, which places high demands on the radius of the edges. For this purpose, Waelzholz Brasmetal manufactures steel strip with precisely machined edges that not only increases performance, but also the service life of the saw blade.   We ensure consistently high quality and adherence to tight tolerances through the use of high-precision tools and strict dimensional control. For QA purposes, we test and analyze the shape of the edges in our own lab at our Brazilian site. We recently started using a new system here that measures the edge profile in real time and projects it onto a large screen. Management change at Waelzholz Brasmetal Our Brazilian subsidiary has a new CEO. On October 1, Baroudi Zelit took over the position, and now forms the Executive Board of Waelzholz Brasmetal together with Andre Guapo, CFO. In doing so, he has replaced Pascal Erlmann, who is taking on new challenges in sales at our headquarters in Hagen, Germany. Baroudi Zelit has been with Waelzholz for 19 years and was most recently responsible for quality assurance and management systems in Hagen.
