As we all experienced the high temperatures over the summer #globalwarming, our Know-your-footprint (Kyf) campaign spread further and was part of the Sustainable HEP Workshop (https://lnkd.in/emhnUu6F), #ICHEP2024, and the Python Programming School in Aachen (https://lnkd.in/eeJdpvX9) - #knowyourfootprint. Many thanks to the speakers, Naman Kumar Bhalla and Pardis Niknejadi for their amazing and thought-inspiring presentations. #yHEP #sustainability #carbonfootprint

Info
The yHEP association represents scientists with non-permanent contracts in the fields of astroparticle physics, hadron and nuclei, as well as elementary particle physics. yHEP aims to understand and improve the situation of young scientists, to strengthen their involvement in decisions about the future of the field, and to provide a network of PhD students, post-docs, junior group leaders, junior professors and other non-permanent staff in these fields. CERN turns 70 this year! It is time to celebrate seven decades of scientific discoveries and innovation in particle physics. The official celebration ceremony took place in the Futurium in Berlin last week, and was live-streamed: https://lnkd.in/ea79ybaT yHEP representatives Farah Afzal, Meike Küßner, Michael Lupberger, Valerie L., Jan-Hendrik Arling and Christian Grefe had the great pleasure and fun to attend the ceremony, and participate in outreach, accompanying the event. The celebrations are continuing now throughout Germany, so watch out for events in your area! #CERN70 #yHEP #particlephysics #Futurium

Thank you Valerie L. for presenting our Know-your-footprint (Kyf) campaign at the KCETA Colloquium in Karlsruhe! #yHEP #sustainability #carbonfootprint
Know your footprint! It's been a special honor to present our Know-your-footprint (Kyf) calculator and its calculation basis at the KCETA Colloquium in Karlsruhe - the same institute from where we submitted the publication to arXiv (https://lnkd.in/eqeYuSZQ) and released the calculator (https://lnkd.in/e8v8pDV9) during the DPG spring meeting earlier this year. I very much appreciated the interested questions following my presentation. To give better answers to some of them, we need additional data. So, once you know your footprint, consider submitting it anonymously for statistical analysis. It will allow us to make stronger statements in the future.

Know your footprint! Understanding the #co2emissions from our professional and private lives is of increasing importance in current times. Knowledge of our main contributors will allow us to start targeted action towards reducing #CO2emissions and thus contribute to mitigating climate change. We are happy to announce the Know-your-footprint calculator and the #yHEP paper, which are now available online: https://lnkd.in/egjDtCXt https://lnkd.in/eX8EJ6ac Both can also be found on our webpage: https://lnkd.in/euMw34yN The calculator allows you to estimate your professional footprint in High Energy Physics and related fields. The paper describes the basis of the estimation that goes into the calculator. Many thanks to Valerie L., Naman Kumar Bhalla, Simran Gurdasani, Pardis Niknejadi, who made this possible! We wish you insightful reading and estimation of your personal carbon footprints. Please #share and #raiseawareness! #yHEP #sustainability #science #carbonfootprint #co2emissions #climatechange

Physicists are highly qualified experts to work in many fields of our society. In the session "Physicists beyond academia" at the #DPG spring meeting in #Karlsruhe #DPGKA24, we displayed a selection of such career paths in business and industry. The co-organiser Sonja Schneidewind (#jDPG) and Michael Lupberger (Young High Energy Physicists Association) were very happy to have seen a crowded lecture hall with more than 220 interested physicist mainly from the student level. Special thanks go to our three speakers Isabel Braun (VECTOR Informatik), Charles Majer (Siemens Healthineers) and Florian Herrmann (Stryker) for the insights they provided on their daily work and the path to get them there. We were amazed by their openness to answer questions by the audience and their dedication to stand for further discussions in a relaxing atmosphere after the event. We are proud that our effort in the organisation is honoured by the speakers, large audience and conference organisers. #yhep #DPG #jDPG
