    Excited, challenged, and growing fast—my first six months building ZDF Sparks! How have the first 6 months of setting up ZDF Sparks gone? Trusted to build the AI agency for the ZDF group, I was filled with excitement and respect for the journey ahead when I started on February 1st. Now, the team has grown to 9, we’re hiring more, and we’ve started 3 projects, successfully completing the first ones! Here’s a glimpse of what I’ve learned: 💫 Finding The Best Team: Hiring our passionate, diverse talents with perseverance and patience took days of effort from every Sparks member. It was time very well spent. For me as a Finn, the best way to describe it is that our team has a great amount of sisu for success. 💫 Building a Tech Company within a Large Public Media Group: I faced challenges, like navigating through some very complex processes - some expected, others unexpected - that took time we didn’t really have. I practiced and learned to pivot faster and faster, saving energy for what truly matters. 💫 Defining our Company Culture: Once our senior team was complete, we set our core values as the foundation for our future. It’s amazing to see how everyone embraces these values and helps steer us in the right direction. We’re even attracting new talent who are excited to join us because of what we stand for. I believe we have laid a strong foundation for long-term success. 💫 Transparent Communication: Communicating effectively and setting clear expectations is tough when I don’t have all the answers myself yet. I might not know all the best practices (seriously, tips welcome!), but I rely on our strongest value: transparency. So far, this has proven to be a good approach. What has made me smile every day is the warm welcome and excitement from so many ZDF Group members who have greeted Sparks - and me - with open arms and hope. The start has been truly enjoyable, thanks to the tremendous support and guidance from Karoline, Dr Markus Schäfer, Andreas, Michael and everyone within the group.     🌟 Wow, it was an insightful workshop at Google for our team on Google Vertex AI and MLOps!  💻 Together with the amazing team ZDF Sparks, we explored the latest advances in Google Cloud for AI and MLOps best practices. We covered a range of services from ingestion to processing and deployment, including cloud storage, BigQuery, AutoML and Vertex AI.    Google Cloud Console is a powerful and intuitive tool that gives you a single view of your cloud resources and allows you to manage them efficiently. It's a game changer for anyone working with cloud-based AI and ML solutions.     We also discussed how organizations can use Identity and Access Management (IAM) to enhance security compliance. IAM enables precise role and permission definitions while providing centralized access control management.   During the workshop, we had the opportunity to work on building PoCs for our use cases focusing on: 😀   ➡️ Feature selection  ➡️ data preparation and fine-tuning Gemini model  ➡️ creating and using Agent Builder for embedding search     We were particularly pleased to learn about the comprehensive end-to-end services offered by Google Cloud, which enable processes from data handling to model deployment.      Key takeaways from the workshop included best practices for implementing MLOps, leveraging Google Cloud's advanced tools for efficient AI and ML workflows, and the importance of security and monitoring when managing cloud resources.      Connecting with Patrick Haller, Maximilian Bender, Lukas P., @Ignacio Coloma was an incredible experience.      Their insights and guidance were invaluable, and we look forward to maintaining this connection for future collaboration and support.      The hands-on experience was invaluable and we're looking forward to applying what we learned to our projects.     When the temperature soared, so did our commitment! 🌞   Despite the scorching summer heat, our team at ZDF Sparks braved the Berlin sun to dive into a lively workshop dedicated to figure out and polish our core values. We were buzzing with energy, and the heat only made us more determined to build a strong foundation for our startup. 💪🏽   We came across a few tricky situations and unexpected hurdles along the way, but as always, we faced them head-on and got through them successfully. Our goal was to lay a solid foundation for our values and company culture, which will guide our teamwork and future colleagues. These values aren't just how we work together, they also help us provide our clients with amazing services. It was really important for us to make sure everyone's voice was heard and that our core values match up with each person's personal values. ✅   We made tremendous progress and strengthened our team bonds in the process.     The latest ZDF study reveals that 80.6% of respondents consider it very important for ZDF to contribute to education. ZDF plays a key role in providing reliable information during crises and supporting democratic education; and working on key initiatives like debunking fake news and improving access to resources for students and teachers. Additionally, 70% of ZDF viewers believe the broadcaster largely or fully meets its educational mission. 📚   At ZDF Sparks, we are thrilled about these findings, and fully committed to support ZDF where we just can.     Neue Studie zum Bildungsauftrag des ZDF 📚📊 📈 Das ZDF hat eine Studie initiiert, um die Erwartungen der Bevölkerung an seinen Bildungsauftrag zu erforschen. Die Studie zeigt: 80,6% der Befragten finden es (sehr) wichtig, dass das ZDF einen Beitrag zur Bildung leistet. Selbst ein Großteil derjenigen, die das ZDF weniger nutzen, teilen diese Erwartung. Wichtige Aufgaben des ZDF sind dabei nach Einschätzung der Befragten beispielsweise, als verlässliche Quelle in Krisenzeiten zu dienen und einen Beitrag zur Demokratiebildung zu leisten. 💡 70% der ZDF-Nutzerinnen und -Nutzer sind überzeugt, dass der Sender seinen Bildungsauftrag (weitgehend oder voll und ganz) erfüllt. Unterschiedliche Bevölkerungsgruppen haben je nach Bildungsorientierung und Verständnis gesellschaftlicher Herausforderungen unterschiedliche Erwartungen an das ZDF. 🎓 Die Studie liefert damit wertvolle Erkenntnisse, um die Bildungsangebote des ZDF zu optimieren und den Erwartungen der Bevölkerung gerecht zu werden. Ein zentraler Ansatzpunkt ist das Aufdecken von Fake News. Die Menschen sollen dabei unterstützt werden, sie zu entlarven. Ein weiterer Schritt: Das ZDF verstärkt seine Verifikationsteams bei Wahlen und macht das Bildungsangebot für Schülerinnen und Schüler sowie für Lehrkräfte besser auffindbar und nutzbar. #ZDF #Bildung #Studie #Bildungsauftrag

    Letzte Woche waren Pirita und ich in Mainz, um unsere Schwesterfirma ZDF Digital Medienproduktion GmbH besser kennenzulernen und die Kolleg:innen vor Ort zu treffen. Für mich, gerade in meiner Onboarding-Phase, war dieser Trip super wertvoll. Wir sind ja noch ein überschaubares Start-up und es war spannend zu sehen, wie bei ZDF Digital gearbeitet wird, vor allem im Bereich HR und Recruiting. Wir konnten auf jeden Fall eine Menge voneinander lernen. Ein großes Dankeschön auch an das Technology Team von ZDF Digital für die inspirierenden Gespräche! 🙌🏽 Ich habe wieder einmal gemerkt, wie wichtig es ist, sich trotz Remote Setup hin und wieder in den ersten drei Monaten persönlich zu treffen. Vor allem für die Zusammenarbeit mit Pirita und die genaue Abstimmung vieler Dinge in unserem Startup. Und wir haben gemeinsam auch fleißig an unseren Prozessen und Ideen für ZDF Sparks weitergearbeitet 📑 Auch der Besuch bei ZDF Studios GmbH war eine neue und aufregende Erfahrung für mich - es war spannend einen kleinen Einblick in die Abläufe dort zu bekommen und das Bürogebäude kennenzulernen. Mainz selbst ist eine sehr schöne und charmante Stadt. Besonders cool war es natürlich, die Fußballfans zu sehen, die den Sieg von Deutschland gegen Ungarn gemeinsam gefeiert haben. Die Stimmung war überall einfach super. ⚽ Alles in allem war die Reise nach Mainz nicht nur beruflich bereichernd, sondern auch persönlich eine tolle Erfahrung. Sie hat mir geholfen, mich noch besser in unsere Unternehmensfamilie zu integrieren und neue Perspektiven zu gewinnen. Und war sicherlich auch wertvoll für die Zusammenarbeit mit Pirita! #StrongZDFSparks #TalentsofZDFSparks #Onboarding
