Great new concept for electric SUVs from BMW Group this morning - setting out their Neue Klasse X concept for the next generation of SUVs. Hopefully the wheel sizes will be tempered to deliver market leading energy efficiency when they launch. But I love the light interior - proper future design. I was lucky enough to borrow the i3 and i8 for a week when they first launched in the UK nearly 10 years ago - and they were both a vision for the future back a decade ago. The neue klasse concept announced by BMW last year for their saloon cars is the one that really grabs my interest though - not a fan of SUVs. Exciting times ahead for the industry as a whole. BMW's current X5 has been around since 2019 and will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2025, but a new generation is already in development. The next X5 promises fully electric powertrains, alongside combustion and hybrid options, with a design inspired by the Neue Klasse X concept. This model will likely debut around 2026. The upcoming X5 will retain its classic SUV shape but feature modern touches like flush door handles and an EV-focused design. Up front, it will have a sleek kidney grille and bold headlights, while the sides will showcase sharp, simple creases. The rear is expected to retain the popular split tailgate design, with updated taillights like those on the 2025 X3. Inside, the new X5 might adopt BMW's latest dashboard layout, with wide screens for a futuristic look. While BMW is moving toward the Neue Klasse platform, the next X5 will ride on the CLAR architecture, allowing it to offer combustion, hybrid, and fully electric powertrains. At the top of the lineup will likely be the X5 M60e hybrid, with options similar to the 5 Series lineup. The fully electric iX5 is expected to share motors with the i5 sedan, which produces 593 horsepower and 586 lb-ft of torque, reaching 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. The X5 will likely be slightly slower due to its larger size. Currently, the X5 sDrive40i starts at $66,875 (€63,000 / £55,000), with the X5 M60i priced at $91,175 (€86,000 / £75,000). The next-generation X5 is expected to start around $70,000 (€66,500 / £58,000), with top models nearing $100,000 (€95,000 / £83,000). E-Motoren ermöglichen andere Dinge als Verbrenner. Das ist eher die #kurzfristige Innovation die wir sehen werden und evtl mehr Leute davon überzeugt auf E zu wechseln als "dumm" einen Verbrenner zu kopieren. Ich bin immer noch der Ansicht, das Tesla mit seinem Bildschirm und der Pfurzfunktion überzeugte und nicht mit Auto. Jetzt hats BMW und Co kopiert und nun läufts halt wieder zum Verbrenner. Aber genau in dem was die Hyundai Kollegen zeigen liegt doch der Unterschied. Andere Technologie = Andere Ideen und Ansätze. Also: Nicht kopieren sondern neu denken.

However, BMW is known for continuously innovating and developing new technologies, including hybrid powertrains, to improve performance and efficiency across their lineup. It's possible that BMW may introduce a hybrid V8 powertrain in future models, especially as the automotive industry increasingly shifts towards electrification and hybridization to meet stricter emissions regulations and satisfy consumer demand for more sustainable vehicles without compromising performance. BMW M Hybrid V8 areodynamics While there isn't specific information available regarding the aerodynamics of a hypothetical BMW M Hybrid V8, we can speculate on how BMW might approach aerodynamic enhancements for such a vehicle based on their current practices and trends in automotive design. Vor 90 Jahren, am 6. April 1934, bietet die Ford Motor Company die Option auf weiße Seitenwandreifen für ihre Neuwagen zum Preis von 11,25 US-Dollar pro Satz an. Für das Jahr 1934 bot Ford 12 Karosserievarianten für seine 4- und 8-Zylinder-Reihe an, darunter einfache Coupés, Roadster, zweitürige Limousinen, Cabriolets, Cabrio-Limousinen und viertürige Limousinen. Die 8-Zylinder-Fahrzeuge von Ford kosten 510 bis 660 US-Dollar. Wem das etwas zu fett war, der konnte mit der 4-Zylinder-Version für 50 Dollar weniger davonfahren. Was die Weißwandschwellen betrifft, so waren die ersten Autoreifen gebrochen weiß, die Farbe der damals verwendeten Gummiformel. Als Zinkoxid hinzugefügt wurde, um die Wärmeleitfähigkeit und Zugfestigkeit zu verbessern, entstand als Nebenprodukt eine hellere weiße Farbe. Im Jahr 1910 fügte B.F. Goodrich seiner Formel „Carbon Black“ hinzu, um seine Gummireifen zu verstärken. 90 years ago on April 6, 1934, Ford Motor Company makes available the option for white sidewall tires on its new cars at a cost of $11.25 per set. For 1934, Ford offered 12 body styles for its 4 and 8 cylinder lines including basic coupes, roadsters, 2-door sedans, cabriolets, convertible sedans, and 4-door sedans. Ford’s 8 cylinder vehicles cost $510-$660. If that was a little too rich for your blood, you could drive away in the 4-cylinder version for $50 less. As far as the whitewall ties, the first automobile tires were off white, the color of the rubber formula used at the time. When zinc oxide was added to improve thermal conductivity and tensile strength, a byproduct was a brighter white color. In 1910, B.F. Goodrich added "carbon black" to its formula to strengthen its rubber tires. Other companies followed suit, but only used the carbon black on the tread surface as a cost savings. The resulting product? Whitewall tires. Luxury vehicle manufacturers, like The Pierce-Arrow Motor Car Company based in Buffalo, NY from 1901 to 1938, made whitewalls available earlier, but for Fords, this option became available 90 years ago on this very day. The beginning of the end for whitewalls started when tire heights got smaller in the 1950s and manufacturers began to make the whitewall stripe smaller and smaller. By 1962, solid black radial tires were pretty much the standard, though whitewalls remained an option on some classic car models until the end of the 1970s. You can still get them, but whitewall tires lost favor with consumers because they scuff easily, turn yellow, and just aren’t as durable. They sure look cool, though.
