BASF Human Nutrition hat dies direkt geteilt
On July 29, 2024, an explosion followed by a fire occurred in a BASF plant in our site in Ludwigshafen. As a result of this incident, we had to declare Force Majeure for selected vitamin A, vitamin E, and carotenoid products as well as selected aroma ingredients. Although this event was undoubtedly distressing, to everyone’s relief, nobody was seriously injured. We remain deeply committed to the safety of our operations and a detailed investigation of the incident by experts is on-going. At the same time, cleaning, inspection and repair of the plant has already started. In light of the challenging situation, I would like to express my gratitude to all those who have played a crucial role in handling the incident. This includes the employees in the plant, the fire fighters, corporate security, the ambulance unit, BASF Human Nutrition and BASF Animal Nutrition teams, as well as various other support functions. I am very proud of the team spirit and collaboration I am witnessing every day! I understand that the declaration of Force Majeure has been frustrating for our customers. I want to emphasize that our teams are working very hard on getting our plant up and running safely to resume reliably supplying our customers as soon as possible with the high BASF-quality products they are used to. We appreciate all the support we received from our customers and partners, and we will continue to keep them up to date with new developments. Earlier this week, we had the honor of hosting the Vietnam Colors Seminar, in collaboration with our esteemed distributor, Phu Mai Anh Corporation, in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. The seminar focused on the theme of 'Revolutionizing the food color market with carotenoids from BASF nutrition ingredients’, bringing together more than 60 key customers from the nutrition industry. During the seminar, we showcased our innovative carotenoids that address the latest global and local trends. This includes regulatory changes on artificial colors, the shift towards natural colors, the growing demand for high-quality nutrition products, and sustainability transformation in the food and beverage categories. We enjoyed ourselves during the exchange with our customers, demonstrating the excellent properties and performance of our carotenoids in food color applications. The seminar not only provided valuable insights but also served as an opportunity to strengthen partnerships with our valued customers and partners. As a result of a fire that occurred in a BASF plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany on July 29, 2024, BASF SE - also on behalf of its affected affiliates - declares Force Majeure on deliveries of selected vitamin A, vitamin E, and carotenoid products as well as selected aroma ingredients, with immediate effect and until further notice. Last week, on July 29, 2024, around 12 PM CEST, an explosion followed by a fire occurred due to the leak of an organic solvent in a BASF plant in the southern part of our site in Ludwigshafen. We were relieved that all injured employees could leave the BASF Medical Center the same day, on the evening of July 29. The impacted plant manufactures aroma ingredients and precursors for the vitamin production.
