A new milestone for personal protective clothing in Africa has been reached! 🌍 We are thrilled to announce that we will be launching Africa's first locally made ISO-certified personal protective clothing in Kenya. The affordable garment has been designed to ensure safe handling of crop protection products while considering wearing comfort in tropical climates. 🌱 The launch event symbolizes a new chapter for the project, which has been realized in collaboration with the International Center for PPE (ICPPE) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, the Pest Control Products Board (PCPB), Syngenta, and most importantly, farmer feedback! On #WorldMosquitoDay, we want to raise awareness of the need for innovation and collaboration to protect vulnerable communities from vector-borne diseases, such as malaria. Of the roughly 3,500 species of mosquitoes, about 12 species transmit diseases and pose a serious threat to human lives. One such disease is #Malaria, and it is responsible for over 600,000 human deaths each year, with pregnant women and children under the age of 5 being the most vulnerable. Thanks to support from partners like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, IVCC (Innovative Vector Control Consortium), and NGOs such as MedAccess and The Global Fund, we have delivered millions of Interceptor® G2 nets to malaria-affected countries and continue innovating for the next generations of Interceptor nets. In fact, we will have delivered more than 100 million Interceptor® G2 nets worldwide by the end of 2024, which is estimated to protect more than 200 million people. Our commitment to innovation and collaboration is essential to combat insecticide resistance and to #EndMalaria, protect communities, and save lives.

Extreme weather conditions present significant challenges for farmers worldwide. Take La Niña, for example—a periodic weather phenomenon that alters ocean temperatures, leading to drastic global weather changes. This is just one example of how unpredictable weather patterns can impact agriculture. To help farmers secure yields and maintain high productivity, robust crop varieties, digital tools, and preventive measures like seed treatment are essential. In response, our colleagues in Brazil are advising local soybean farmers on preparing for the 2024/2025 harvest season. Their recommendations include staggered sowing, utilizing variable rate sowing solutions provided by xarvio® Digital Farming Solutions , and closely monitoring diseases in anticipation of wetter weather conditions. A suite of innovative tools is crucial for helping farmers adapt to changing weather patterns, ultimately building sustainable and climate-resilient food systems. Partnering with Naam Foundation to ensure clean water for thousands of rural families in India. Our colleagues at BASF India and the NAAM Foundation have successfully completed a water conservation project in the Hingoli district of Maharashtra, allowing over 5000 rural families and the agricultural community in the region to have access to clean water resources. The NAAM Foundation works with over thousand water-scarce villages and assists them to maintain water-security all year round. The project consisted of different activities such as the construction of farm ponds, the deepening and widening of water canals by 3 km and the rejuvenation of a percolation tank. "By creating a water-secure future, we hope to support farmers in their efforts to sustainably cultivate the land and contribute to the growth of their communities,” says Giridhar Ranuva, Business Director at BASF Agricultural Solutions India. #BASFinAg #WaterConservation #SustainableAgriculture
