𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 – 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀. 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝘂𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹? 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲. At #Chillventa 2024, the startup MAGNOTHERM presented a fresh perspective in our elevator pitch: cooling can be reimagined.. The idea behind it: Instead of conventional refrigerants, a special metal is used that heats up when magnetized and cools down when demagnetized. This effect – known as the magnetocaloric effect – enables efficient cooling without pressure systems or emissions. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗢₂ 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 Data from the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) shows that today’s heat pump technology can already supply 37% of the industrial sector’s process heat. If fully utilized, the European industry could reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 146 million tons annually—that’s 24% of its current emissions and more than the Netherlands emits in a year. “Europe needs a competitive and sustainable industry – and large-scale heat pumps are the key. They already provide reliable heat, reduce costs, and enable affordable energy in manufacturing processes. This potential must be further expanded,” emphasizes EHPA General Director Paul Kenny. To accelerate this transition, EHPA urges the European Commission to put industrial heat pumps at the center of future climate strategies. One of the most significant trends is the increasing use of natural refrigerants, particularly propane (R290).   𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿: While heat pumps were traditionally used primarily in single-family homes, they are now gaining momentum in larger residential buildings, such as multi-family housing. Advances in system technology, high-performance refrigerants, and optimized control concepts enable more efficient heat supply—even in complex building structures.   𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿: The industrial market is experiencing significant growth in high-capacity heat pumps, which are also utilizing natural refrigerants. These systems achieve high supply temperatures and are ideal for process heat applications and industrial waste heat utilization. As a result, they play a crucial role in decarbonizing industrial processes.   ➡️ The increasing use of natural refrigerants and the scaling of heat pump technology to larger applications are key steps toward enhancing energy efficiency and reducing emissions. There are two main types, each optimized for different applications:   ➡️ Axial Fans – These classic propeller-style fans move air parallel to their axis. They are highly efficient for applications requiring high airflow at low pressure, such as cooling systems or fresh air supply.   ➡️ Centrifugal Fans – These fans redirect air at a 90° angle, generating higher pressure. This makes them ideal for systems with greater resistance, such as ventilation or air conditioning systems.   Choosing the right type of fan can improve energy efficiency, reduce costs, and optimize airflow — whether in buildings, vehicles, or industrial processes.
