Sustainable game changers 🌿Natural, yet high-performing fibres came together at the Nature Performance area at Techtextil. Whether #natural, #biobased or #degradable: International exhibitors showed future-proof solutions for numerous industries: Anatolian Colors from Turkey showcased innovative natural dyes that can compete with chemical dyes in terms of quality and durability, revolutionising industries such as fashion and automotive. The Swiss start-up OceanSafe presented a polyester material that is just as durable, functional and scalable as conventional polyester – and at the same time completely biodegradable. 🌍 Did you know the construction sector is responsible for around 40% of global CO2 emissions, with concrete production being a major contributor? The Institut für Textilmaschinen und Textile Hochleistungswerkstofftechnik (ITM), TU Dresden and Institut für Massivbau (IMB), TU Dresden won a Techtextil Innovation Award for a revolutionary new process. 🏆 Their method uses carbon fibre to manufacture precast concrete elements, significantly reducing concrete usage. The key innovation: hollow core slabs that have cavities and require 28% less concrete than conventional, solid steel beams - with the same load-bearing capacity. The spectrum ranged from natural fibers and materials to bio-based ones.  Exhibitors highlighted their performance across various sectors including #architecture, #construction, #mobility, #healthcare, and #fashionindustry. Fashion meets performance: At Techtexil and Texprocess, young professionals of tomorrow presented new concepts and innovative visions in the MASTERCLASS Performance Fashion Design by Nora Kühner. The workshop connected fashion students, manufacturers of functional apparel textiles and suppliers of processing technologies from all over the world. During the trade fairs, the students developed sustainable concepts for apparel and equipment together with the renowned designer . The fashion students came from international design universities such as the University of the Arts London, Savonia University of Applied Sciences, Hochschule Bielefeld.
