iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

Like many on here I had been having many of the same issues, missing all sorts of notifications, not just text since upgrading to ios 14 (first 14.1 then 14.2). Here is what fixed my issue... I went to settings->notifications->messages (for this example) and scrolled down to the options section. For the show previews section the "when unlocked (default)" was selected, meaning only notifications would only appear when the phone is unlocked when is hardly ever the case. I switched it always and the issue is now gone. I had to go into may other apps one by one and toggle this option back to always. Showing previews only when unlocked was 100% not my setting before this update.

What is interesting/****** me off is my wife just upgraded to ios14 and did not have issue. I went into her phone to settings->notifications->messages and for her show previews option was selected as "always (default)". Why on her phone she has options listed as "always (default)" and on my is "always" and "when unlocked (default)" I have no clue.

Thanks Apple!

I have the same problem. I think this is an Apple ID problem. If I take my phone and log out of my Apple ID, I start getting all my notifications. Log back into Apple ID, they stop. Reset all settings on the phone and the notifications work again until I connect my apple watch. Once I do that, it is back to the same loop.

The workaround I've been successful with is to turn Bluetooth off. Once I did that I've started to receive notifications on both my phone and my watch. Turn Bluetooth back on and all notifications stop on both of my devices. I've tried all the other suggestions and this is the one that worked for me. Maybe...it'll help someone else.

Since they don't monitor this discussion, I've reported the issue to Apple several times.

I recently stated to have this issue. My phone was working fine and then I noticed that I had messaged that I didn’t know I received. I turned off my phone and reset my networking setting and nothing. I don’t hear text tone sounds but my phone does vibrate. I get everything else with sound like : calls , notifications, etc. & yes , I do have the new update...

can someone please help me out here.

Not only is it the update it also is the 5G, 5G is new and it has issues. So I turned off my 5G and it’s helped! But there are still a few things that act up and that’s part of the update. I haven’t had any issues so far after turning off my 5G and my phones updated and I have the 12 pro max. Maybe try turning off the 5G to see if that’ll help some?

So this is going to sound crazy but my son’s iPhone 8 was not getting notifications of any kind for text messages for several months. After trying every solution I’ve found on this thread I was hopeless and ready to switch to android. Figured I’d try one more thing- Flooding apple support directly every day for a week.... and my emails either worked or it miraculously fixed itself because as of yesterday his notifications, sound and banner, are working fine. Moral of the story, email the crap out of apple support and keep your fingers crossed.

I have 2 identical phones (Xr) on 2 different apple IDs and both paired with an apple watch 3. Both were updated from IOS 13 to 14 at the same time; same for the all next IOS 14 updates.

One phone shows no problem at all, the second one is suffering with the notification problem. Some apps work OK now (WhatsApp), mail notification come in grouped 4 to 6 at a time, usually 15 mins or more after the last email was received.

No changes observed with the IOS 14 updates, I remember WhatApp was problematic initially, not sure if a WhatApp or IOS update is responsable for WhatApp working OK now.

Tried all proposed solutions here and other fora, except for turing off bluetooth and reset then setup iphone as new.

None of solutions solves the issue. Un-paring and erase the Apple watch, the pairing again, which took a lot of time solved nothing.

There doesn't seem to be much of a respons of Apple, on this which may have it ending up in the same bin with the OSX audio stutter with bluetooth problem: not getting resolved. Looking forward to Apple putting cars on our streets...

The workaround to this was mentioned earlier. This worked for me 100%.

Go to settings —> notifications.

Click on “Shows Previews” and choose “Always.” This means your locked iPhone will show notification previews before it’s unlocked. So, all you need to do is go to specific apps you don’t want this to happen with and change it to “When unlocked.” It takes a few minutes of changing settings, but this solved it for me instantly.

I have a 12 Pro Max, iOS 14.4, not getting text or Facebook notifications. If I’m listening to a podcast on Bluetooth, the volume cuts in half when a notification comes in but there’s still no alert sound, that’s new. I’ve tried all the “fixes” in this thread. I’ve never had so many issues with an Apple product. This phone performs no better than the 8+ I traded in in November.

I have had this issue since iOS 14 dropped. I honestly feel like I had it in iOS 13 as well, but that's maybe because this has been going on for such an incredibly long time.

I have tried everything. EVERYTHING. I have talked to Apple Support and been escalated to Engineering. First it was my iPhone 11's silent switch. Got a replacement phone. Issue persisted with new phone. So, then they thought it was a third-party bluetooth issue. Disconnected my bluetooth speaker, reset network settings, set up as new phone, restored from backup. Turned off bluetooth - Hey! That worked. But, like, I need to use bluetooth for my Apple watch and AirPods. Issue persists. Try turning on and off iMessages.

Finally signed out of iMessage, then turned it back on BUT I did not sign in to iMessage using my Apple ID, so I can only receive messages using my phone number, not my apple addresses. THIS WORKS! It has worked consistently for me for about a month now. I am receiving all notifications with sound on my Apple watch, AirPods, and iPhone depending on which I choose the notification to come through. The problem is, I would really like to be able to use iMessage on my phone so that I can continue my messages on my iMac, MacBook, and iPad. It is completely bananas that Apple has not addressed this issue in FOUR updates now.
