BREAKING NEWS: Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo and DisneySea to Close From Tomorrow Saturday March 1st Through March 15 Over Coronavirus Outbreak in Japan

Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea will close from tomorrow Saturday March 1st through March 15 over coronavirus outbreak in Japan. This makes four Disney theme parks - though the ones of TDR are not owned by Disney - who are now closed in Asia. All of them will reopen some day, hopefully soon, but no dates were announced, even the March 15 date for the two TDR parks might be changed in one month, if necessary.

More from the Tokyo Times article HERE:

The operator of Tokyo’s two Disney resorts, Disneyland and DisneySea, said Friday the parks would be closed for around two weeks on fears over the outbreak of the new coronavirus. The Ikspiari shopping mall of Tokyo Disney Resort will also be closed.

“Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea have decided to proceed with an extraordinary closure from Saturday February 29, 2020, through Sunday March 15” after the government urged measures to limit the spread of the virus, the operator said in a statement.

The Oriental Land Co. said it currently hoped to resume operations from March 16.

“Currently, we plan to reopen on March 16. But we’ll decide when to open by looking at the situation and developments. We’ll also consult (official) agencies concerned,” a spokesman said.

More than 30 million visitors flood into the two parks per year, and they are among the most popular destinations for tourists coming to Tokyo.

The move comes as the government steps up measures to tackle the outbreak of the virus, which has been linked to at least four deaths in the country and nearly 200 infections.

Tokyo DisneySea Released First Look Inside the New Soaring : Fantastic Flight Attraction !

Tokyo Disney Resort released two videos today, one providing a first look inside the new Soaring : Fantastic Flight attraction opening in July at Tokyo DisneySea, and the other being a promotional video for the new ride. The movie will be for the most the same than Soaring Over the World that we know at SDL, DCA or Epcot, but i think there is a new exclusive sequence.

As usual TDR got the best version of the attraction with a highly impressive theming for the buiding and the queue decor, and even a theming for the ride seats with a "wood" style as well as an extremely brilliant idea in the show room itself with a balcony giving the feeling that you'll fly over it for a trip around the world. Pure Imagineering genius.

Don't miss the videos below!

TDR also released pictures of merchandise and food items linked to the attraction.

This new version of Soaring looks like a fantastic addition to a park which is already considered as the best themed park on Earth and it will open in July!

Breaking News: Oriental Land Announces Plans to Expand Tokyo Disney Resort, but NO third theme park

Oriental Land Co. on Sunday officially announced plans to expand Tokyo Disney Resort. The operator of TDR is planning to expand one of its two theme parks, either Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea. It ruled out the possibility of establishing a third theme park. It will announce more information about the plan, such as new attractions and when the expansion will be complete, as soon as the details are confirmed.

“We would like to create a Tokyo Disney Resort that fulfills new dreams. Currently, we are planning the park’s expansion and looking into how to expand our park,” said Oriental Land Chairman Toshio Kagami at a ceremony commemorating the 35th anniversary, and giving the first official word on the expansion plans, reported last November, which aim to increase visitor numbers and reduce congestion.

Details of the expansion and when it will happen have not yet been determined. A project to turn the existing ground-level parking lot into a multistory car park tower is scheduled to be completed in fiscal 2019. The development will free up land and open the way for new features to be added. The expansion project is expected to start after the parking revamp is complete.

Tokyo Disney Resort drew 30.1 million visitors in fiscal 2017, marking the fifth year in a row in which more than 30 million people have passed through its gates. The theme park’s success means the need to reduce congestion has become more pressing.

More attractions to be completed over the next few years include one named “ Soarin’,” which will open at Tokyo DisneySea in 2019, and a "Beauty and the Beast"-themed facility to be added at Tokyo Disneyland in 2020.

There is more as TDR announced the development of a new hotel named Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel, with an opening in June 2016, in the Shin-Urayasu Area close to Tokyo Disney Resort. It will be the fourth Disney hotel to operate in Japan. Brighton Corporation Co., Ltd., a 100% subsidiary of Milial Resort Hotels, will redevelop the existing Palm & Fountain Terrace Hotel for this new hotel that will specialize in accommodations.

Currently the three existing Disney hotels have an annual occupancy rate of over 90%, which indicates the extremely high demand for Tokyo Disney Resort accommodations. Accordingly, the decision was made to develop a new hotel that will allow more Guests to enjoy a stay at a Disney hotel.

The development of the hotel will be based on a new concept that is different from the existing hotels. The designs will celebrate the magic and imagination of Tokyo Disneyland Park and Tokyo DisneySea Park in the guest rooms, the lobby and the courtyards. Guests staying in the Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel will be surrounded by the ambiance of their favorite Disney Park memories, inspiring them to relive moments from their time spent in the Parks, as well as anticipating the experiences awaiting them the next day.

Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel will offer attractive accommodations while making a casual resort stay possible by simplifying its facilities and services. With the opening of this new hotel, even more Guests will be able to enjoy a wonderful, unforgettable time at Tokyo Disney Resort.
The Disney hotels will continue to evolve as the hotels of choice that are favored by many Guests.

In preparation for the opening of the new hotel, the two buildings of the Palm & Fountain Terrace Hotel will close separately. The Fountain Terrace Hotel will close on February 27, 2016 and the Palm Terrace Hotel will close on June 1, 2016. After the new hotel opens, the management and operations will continue to be handled by Brighton Corporation Co., Ltd.
