BREAKING NEWS: Stan Lee, Genius Marvel Super-Heroes Creator Dies at 95

VERY sad news as it was just announced that beloved and genius Marvel super-heroes creator Stan Lee died today at 95 at a hospital in Los Angeles.

CNN Article HERE , New York Times article HERE and Washington Post article HERE.

What we owe to Stan Lee is over any estimation. Before being adapted for epic super-heroes movies, Marvel heroes were part of our childhood or teen age and Stan was in its own right called "the Homere of the 20th Century" - in reference to famous ancient Greek writer and poet Homere who wrote the Iliad and Odyssey.

I had the luck to meet Stan for a few minutes during the grand Opening of Universal Island of Adventure, precious minutes that i will cherish forever. Disney and more sent its warmest condolences to Stan Lee children and family.

Here are some pictures of Stan through the years.

With his wife Joan who passed away in 2017.

Here is a great CNN interview of Stan on the Lary King show in 2000.

EDITING: Larry King has posted on Youtube the last interview he did with Stan Lee in 2015 filmed at Stan Lee last company POW Entertainment!

This month, Taschen Editions also released a gorgeous 444 pages book titled Stan Lee Story - written by his long time Marvel writer and collaborator Roy Thomas - on which i had intended to do an article in the next days, here are some pictures from it. The book is a pricey limited editions of 1000 copies but you still can order it if you wish on the Taschen.com website HERE ...for $1500.

The last picture below shows Stan in all his cameos for Marvel movies.

Watch ALL Stan Lee cameos since 1898 till 2018 in the video below.

You might also remember my post earlier this year when Stan was going though all kind of problems, both physically and socially ( with his associates who stole money from him, etc ) in which i was explaining that the transit of Saturn currently on his Sun degree in Capricorn was responsible that all these happened at the same time, and that he'll be lucky if he succeed to survive to 2018. No need to say that i would have preferred to be wrong but Saturn is "Murphy's Law" ( everything that can go wrong will go wrong ) and also, symbolically, the "Grim Reaper". With Saturn transits SOMETHING got to die. When Saturn comes back at 29 on the degree it was the day you're born it is the end of the teen age and time to really grow up. When he's back again at 58 - 59 it's the moment when people retired from their job - or pay the price for all their behaviour and mistakes in the previous 29 years ( Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey ). But when you have a Saturn transit at 95 it's almost impossible to survive to it. And the reason why is not only the dozens of problems it brings but also because Saturn transits are incredibly exhausting. And i can confirm that it's true as I am currently in the same kind of bad Saturn transit - actually exactly this month and even this week - and i don't tell you how bad and exhausting it is - and i'm not 95!
All this to say that if you're a Capricorn native - Saturn it still in the sign for two more years - or have beloved ones born under the Capricorn sign, and especially if they are over, let's say, 78, make sure to stay close to them as the next years won't be fun for them, not to mention they could be eventually deadly.

Stan Lee Reveals He Is Fighting Pneumonia - And Has Been Robbed of $1.4 Million

Truly bad news coming from Stan Lee who reveal in the TMZ video below that he's fighting a pneumonia, something that can be deadly for everyone, but especially when you're 95 years old. In the video, Stan is saying:

Hiya heroes, this is Stan Lee. I haven’t been in touch with you lately. Had a little bout of pneumonia I’ve been fighting, but it seems to be getting better. But I want you all to know I’m thinking of you. Of course, I always think of the fans, and I hope you’re all doing well and I miss you all. I miss your enthusiasm. I miss all the notes and the photos and the emails I used to get, and I still get a lot of them, and I want you to know that I still love you all and I think that Marvel and Spidey and I have the best group of fans that any group in the world ever had and I sure appreciate it. So let me know how you’re doing. I hope everything is going well for you, and I hope next time we talk I’ll be in even better shape. Maybe I’ll have some of this pneumonia knocked down and we can have some real fun over the Internet. Until then, Excelsior.

Unfortunately this isn't the only problem that Stan had recently as he is also having some legal issues as $1.4 million were stolen from his bank account.  Someone has stolen $850,000 to buy a condo and $300,000 was used with a forged check.

From TMZ: "Sources connected to Lee tell us ... detectives working in a specialized unit that deals with elder financial abuse showed up at Stan's Hollywood Hills pad Friday to look into the latest theft. We're told detectives met with Lee for more than 2 hours. Detectives peppered Stan with a bunch of questions ... including exactly who had access to any of his accounts and a timeline of when the cash went missing. Stan turned over financial records to help them find the culprit."

On top of his trips to the hospital, there is sexual harassment allegations made against him, and his former bodyguard causing a scene that ended up with the cops showing up at Lee's home.

Here is Stan, not in good shape,  talking to his beloved fans.

I explained recently on the D&M Facebook page why the year is going to be hard for Stan as he is a Capricorn native and has currently the transit of Saturn on his Sun degree in Capricorn sign, and it last one year ( actually Saturn will stay in Capricorn three years but exactly on his Sun only this year ). The transit of Saturn on the Sun is always very hard times for everyone, but at 95 it can be truly deadly. Let's hope that Stan will succeed to go through it.

A Perfect Movie

I am a bit late on this one, mainly because i didn't watched it before my Hong Kong trip, but i saw tonight Joe Johnston's Captain America. And, boy, it's incredible how good this movie is. A perfect movie, really. You won't find in it even two minutes you wish it would have been deleted.

Not only the casting is perfect - whether it's the first roles or the secondary one - but they had the intelligence to choose for Captain America an actor who is not the typical "square jaws avenger". Chris Evans plays a Captain America who is indeed a patriotic super-hero but who is more intelligent first. Hugo Weaving is a perfect Red Skull and, again, each actor is perfect beginning by the great Tommy Lee Jones playing a U.S army colonel.

The other good idea is to have chosen Joe Johnston as director. Joe Johnston is the one who directed twenty years ago the famous Rocketeer movie and there is no doubt that the 1940's era is perfect for him. The 1940's historical reconstruction is fantastic - don't miss the scene during the 1940's World Expo at the beginning of the movie - and to say the least the whole production of the movie is brilliant, really.

Honor Hunter of Blue Sky Disney told you two weeks ago to "go see Captain America" and i totally agree with Honor. I'm not at all a fan of "war super-heroes" and i was not even a fan of Captain America but this movie is so good - just as good as a good Indiana Jones - that, frankly, don't miss it!

And if you stay until the very end you will even see - after the credits - the first trailer for "The Avengers" movie that will be released summer 2012, and in which Captain America will be one of the Avengers. For the Marvel fans: yes, Stan Lee also appears for a two seconds cameo as a military dignitary at a press conference!

Stan Lee's reaction and first effects of the Disney-Marvel deal

There is something we must never forget about this $4B Disney-Marvel deal: This would have never happen without the genius of a lot of Marvel artists since the 1960's , and especially one man: Stan Lee.

When i heard this amazing news yesterday, knowing that Stan Lee already had a deal between Disney and his company POW! Entertainment, i thought that he may have been the go-between between Disney and Marvel - a bit like Roy Disney was for the Pixar deal some years ago. Finally, it was not the case, as you will learn it from Stan himself in this interview recorded yesterday.

As everybody is wondering what will happen now, what effects on theme park attractions, animation, etc this deal will have - like Honor Hunter did in his excellent articles on Blue Sky Disney - here is the first effect and it's not necessarily a bad news for Marvel fans. As Variety revealed it 20th Century Fox is starting "the process of overhauling one of its big Marvel Entertainment franchises, “Fantastic Four”.
Although the 2005 “Fantastic Four” and 2007 sequel “Rise of the Silver Surfer” directed by Tim Story were not as great as fans would have hope, the new Fantastic Four movie could be better as "The studio has hired Akiva Goldsman as producer...and a new script will be written by Michael Green, the “Heroes” co-executive producer who co-wrote “Green Lantern,” the Martin Campbell-directed Warner Bros film"

Also, "Though Marvel Entertainment owns and finances properties like “Iron Man” and “Thor”, Fox controls “Fantastic Four” in perpetuity as long as it continues making the films". The important words here are "as long as it (Fox) continues making the films".
There is little doubt that yesterday's announcement was an electro-shock to 20th century Fox. In two words, if they want to keep the license, they better do these films, and quick!

By the way, it's interesting to know that "Fox has the same arrangement on Marvel Comics properties “X-Men”, “Daredevil”, and “Silver Surfer” - which, despite an appearance in the "Fantastic Four" sequel, is still a Fox priority for a solo film".
So, may be we will finally see a Silver Surfer movie...the Silver Surfer is my favorite Marvel character and i'm waiting for that movie since 40 years!

Variety also says that "Marvel is a producer and financial participant through a licensing agreement signed before Marvel franchises had the drawing power they have now. In fact, the original deal was made back when Marvel was struggling to pull itself out of bankruptcy in 1997". With yesterday's deal Marvel is definitely out of bankruptcy and the first good effect of it is that all Hollywood Studios who have a license with Marvel have definitely understood that it's time to move their ass if they want to keep these licenses. And if they could produce real good Marvel Superheroes movies, that would be even better.

Have a look at the Variety full article here and to the excellent "Disney's purchase of Marvel is a super deal" L.A .Times article too.

Breaking News : Disney buy Marvel Entertainment and acquire ownership of 5,000 Marvel characters.

Unbelievable. Just when i thought there won't be any big news before the D23 Expo, Disney announces that the company buy Marvel Entertainment Inc for $4 billion in cash and stock, bringing characters like Iron Man and Spider-Man into the family of Mickey Mouse and WALL-E.

Under the deal, Disney will acquire the ownership of 5,000 Marvel characters. Many of them, including the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, were co-created by comic book legend Stan Lee who - what a coincidence - already have a deal between Disney and his company Pow Entertainment since many months.

This is a major deal for Disney - and Marvel, too - and it will be interesting to see what effect it will have on theme parks. There is plenty of super-heroes at Marvel who would make great attraction concept. What? Universal already have a deal? Remember Islands of Adventure Marvel Superhero Island? That's right, that's why i tell you it's will be interesting to follow the effect of this $4B deal in years to come. Very interesting, really.

In the meantime, here is the official Disney Corporate release!

The agreement will require the approval of Marvel shareholders. Marvel was advised on the transaction by BofA Merrill Lynch.
