The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is a prominent Regional Economic Community (REC) of the African Union, dedicated to fostering regional cooperation and integration among its member states. Established in 1986, IGAD's primary mission is to promote sustainable development, peace, and stability in the Horn of Africa, which encompasses Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda. IGAD plays a pivotal role in addressing the region's complex challenges, including conflict resolution, disaster risk management, climate change adaptation, food security, and socio-economic development. Through strategic initiatives and collaborative partnerships, IGAD works to enhance the resilience and prosperity of its member states. Key areas of focus for IGAD include: 1.
