🧠 Revolutionary nanomedicine that reduce damage and improve recovery for ischemic stroke patients by delivering oxygen to the brain during a stroke and absorbing it afterwards. 🧠 3D bioprinting combined with stem cells to create models of vascularized brain tissue that can be applied to uncover and ultimately treat debilitating diseases like dementia. These are two new areas to be explored by Associate Professors Leticia Hosta-Rigau and Johan Ulrik Lind, DTU Health Tech, respectively. They are among the 15 experienced and talented brain researchers, who have received an Ascending Investigator grant from Lundbeckfonden / Lundbeck Foundation. 📢 New Publication Alert: Optimizing Hemoglobin Quantification for HBOCs! We are happy to announce the publication of our latest research, titled: "Comparative Evaluation of UV-Vis Spectroscopy-Based Approaches for Hemoglobin Quantification: Method Selection and Practical Insights." With the increasing interest in hemoglobin-based oxygen carriers (HBOCs) as alternatives to red blood cells, accurate characterization is crucial. 🚨 Publication News: Advancing Cardiovascular Disease Treatment with Nanozymes! We are excited to share the news about our newly published paper entitled: "Nitric oxide-triggering activity of gold-, platinum- and cerium oxide-nanozymes from S-nitrosothiols and diazeniumdiolates". Herein, we highlighted the fact that cardiovascular diseases continue to pose a major global health challenge, significantly contributing to mortality and impacting quality of life worldwide. Nitric oxide (NO) plays a vital role in regulating blood pressure and improving blood flow, making it a critical therapeutic target in the prevention of these diseases. In our latest research, we explore the potential of metal-based nanozymes (NZs) to induce NO release from both endogenous and exogenous NO donors. We successfully synthesized gold, platinum (Pt), and cerium oxide NZs, all of which demonstrated the ability to catalyze NO release from key NO sources, including S-nitrosothiols and diazeniumdiolates. Among them, Pt-NZs showed the most promising performance. Additionally, we explored innovative encapsulation and coating techniques using poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) nanoparticles as experimental carriers for Pt-NZs. Both methods proved efficient, successfully triggering NO release. This research marks an exciting step forward in the development of novel therapies for cardiovascular disease prevention! 🚨 Publication Alert: New Breakthrough in Hemoglobin Encapsulation 🚨 We are excited to share the release of our publication of a new paper: "A novel PEG-mediated approach to entrap hemoglobin (Hb) within ZIF-8 nanoparticles: Balancing crystalline structure, Hb content, and functionality." In this study, our team explored the development of hemoglobin (Hb)-based oxygen carriers as a promising alternative or supplement to traditional blood transfusions. We introduced a groundbreaking method by using PEG molecule to entrap hemoglobin (Hb) within ZIF-8 nanoparticles. This approach yielded a very high Hb encapuslation efficiency and ideal size of NPs. Notably, using PEG allowed for protection against metHb conversion at elevated Hb concentrations.
