🎀October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Supporting Survivors Beyond the Diagnosis🎀 As we mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, we at Cacto Health stand in solidarity with those affected by breast cancer—patients, survivors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals alike. While raising awareness for early detection and research is critical, it's equally important to focus on the long-term impact of breast cancer treatments 🌱 One such consequence is secondary lymphedema, a condition that affects many breast cancer survivors due to disrupted lymphatic system, mainly caused by various treatment methods, such as radiotherapy and axillary lymph node removal. Lymphedema can cause significant discomfort, swelling, and reduced quality of life, but with early detection and proper management, the risk of chronic lymphedema can be minimized 🌿 In Cacto Health, we're dedicated to developing innovative tools that monitor and detect early signs of fluid accumulation, helping to manage lymphedema in real-time. By leveraging bioimpedance technology and digital health solutions, we aim to support survivors in their post-cancer journeys—ensuring that they not only survive but thrive 🚀 Let’s use this month to create awareness, extend our support, and push for advancements in cancer rehabilitation and survivorship care 🏋️♀️

Birdie🐤 on board At our Cacto Health office we welcomed a Birdie🐤 on the wall last week. It help us manage the indoor climate and air quality. It has already become a trustworthy mascot. Simple to install, in fact to so simple that we didn’t trust it at first. When first installed it fell dead after only 5 minutes. “It can’t be true, its not that bad air quality in here?”. But it was!! After 15 min with the window open, it came “back to life” 👏 Birdie has enlightened us on how simple User Interface can be made and how it creates a positive atmosphere around keeping good indoor climate and air quality.  Mads Skak, Birdie🐤 , Greta Butkus, MD, Ida Grønborg

Yesterday, we had an inspiring afternoon in Lund, attending the Medicon Valley Alliance Medtech Network event on Navigating Innovation. We were one of the five Medtech companies speaking about the learnings we have gotten so far from development of a medical device. Some of the learnings we spoke about was: -         How the German DiGA fast-track pathway is not always a profitable route if you have a device AND a software solution to sustain 📈 -         How validating your intended purpose with your customers early on, can help you stay in a lower risk class 🚥 -         How early partnerships with clinical Key Opinion Leaders can be important for later market access and sale 🤝 Ida Grønborg and Mads Skak  shared these learnings with the network participants and got valuable feedback and advice Follow our journey here through our LinkedIn page - Cacto Health Thank you to all participating audience and fellow companies - Hanna Sjöström  from Neola Medical, Annika Antius from Iconovo AB, Sara Lindroth from Stryker and Maya Zagouri from Uterome Biomedical

This week you can read more about our company and product in the Danish Startup Bible 2024 🚀 We are lucky to be part of the great BETA.HEALTH® – An innovation platform sponsored by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. "Lymphedema causes slow accumulation of fluid in the arm, causing the arm to swell and become immobile. If not detected yearly the condition can become chronic" In Cacto Health we are developing a digital home monitor for patients at risk of lymphedema, in this way we will empower them to make early detection enabling early treatment. We decrease the risk of chronic lymphedema and the cost that comes with this diagnosis. You can support our team by following our LinkedIn page, sharing our story and facilitating contacts to relevant stakeholder 🙏 Mads Skak, Greta Butkus, MD, Ida Grønborg

💻Digital Innovation in Cancer Rehabilitation: Key Insights from the European Symposium Workshops 💡 Yesterday, our team had the privilege of joining the European Cancer Rehabilitation & Survivorship Symposium’s workshop day. We participated in workshops such as “Clinical reasoning for complex health issues in exercise oncology clinical practice,” “How to build and implement good digi-clinical services in cancer rehabilitation,” and “Exploring digital physiotherapy.” It was an inspiring experience to connect with clinicians and healthcare professionals from across the globe, including Sweden, Norway, Germany, and Japan. 🌍 This diverse group brought a wide array of perspectives on the implementation of digital care systems. 🔑Key takeaways included insights into how the service design model can be adapted to digital rehabilitation in cancer aftercare. We were particularly impressed by the potential for fully digitalized physiotherapy for cancer patients, which is already demonstrating positive patient satisfaction rates. 📈 As we look toward the future, we are excited about the possibilities of digitalization in physiotherapy and the broader implementation of preventative care, especially in supporting breast cancer patients' long-term recovery. The integration of these technologies holds the potential to revolutionize the way we approach rehabilitation, offering patients more accessible and tailored solutions for recovery. 🚀 Let’s continue the conversation on how we can collaboratively drive the future of digital healthcare and improve outcomes for breast cancer survivors and beyond! 🤝 Kræftens Bekæmpelse (Danish Cancer Society) Thank you to Patrik Göransson, Carljohan Orre, Fabian Kleinke, Martijn M. Our CEO, Ida Grønborg, has been nominated as one of 25 female entrepreneurs you should know in 2024, by the Danish Chamber of Commerce (Dansk Erhverv). She states “ I hope with this nomination, to inspire more female researchers to become entrepreneurs, despite the uncertainties that comes with starting a business, the learnings and personal growth that you will experience to me outweighs the personal risks”. See more about the 25 female nominees here and help us celebrate them -https://lnkd.in/dtjqVD78 A new analysis from the Danish Chamber of Commerce show that despite a 20% increase in female business owners in Denmark the last 10 years, we have not seen an equivalent increase in the growth capital for female owned and mixed founder businesses. The access to growth capital is still only 1% for female owned businesses and 6% for mixed teams, while the remaining capital goes to male founders.

“What happened to your arm?” This is a question many lymphedema patients get when people notice that they are wearing their necessary compression sleeve and gauntlet. Many don’t know what lymphedema is. Lymphedema is a chronic vascular condition that is typically seen in connection with cancer treatment – a treatment related side-effect. It results in a gradual disabling swelling of the affected arm. Specifically, after breast cancer, the risk of getting lymphedema within 3 years of treatment is between 20 and 30%. Major risk factors are removal of lymph nodes, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Once a lymphedema patient you must engage in the demanding disease management and self-care to limit the symptoms. This includes wearing compression garments up to 23-hours per day, getting physiotherapy drainage, focusing on good skin care routines to limit infection risk, and generally have a risk-reducing lifestyle. Persons affected by lymphedema report being more isolated, being stigmatized and being physically impaired. It’s important that we inform about side-effects of treatment and the risk associated with being a cancer survivor. And why is this? Well, we know that early detection and treatment of lymphedema can make a difference in reversing the disease for many. In the coming months we will be sharing some more lymphedema insights and the newest research, so follow along for the next chapter. - For the Danish readers I am sharing a post from the Danish Lymphedema Association - Dansk Lymfødem Forening - DALYFO that do incredible work to increase awareness of lymphedema. The new chairperson Helle Petersen does this by sharing her personal story. Welcome to Helle from us in the Cacta team. Ida Grønborg and Mads Skak
