🧐 What are the bottlenecks to addressing greenwashing in eco-friendly products, and what actions can policymakers and businesses take to overcome these challenges? These pressing questions, among others, were discussed during a recent visit by 16 high school students to the CTCN Partnership and Liaison Office (PALO). "Having a curiosity towards climate innovation is crucial. We should all be proud to be citizens of a country like Korea, which is leading the global agenda on plastics this year and will spearhead World Environment Day next year,” shared Dechen Tsering, Director a.i., Climate Change Division, and Director, Regional Office of Asia Pacific. At the CTCN PALO, climate technology was presented as a key tool for accelerating climate action. The discussion highlighted that the private sector, as frontline investors, must transform their practices to meet the growing demand for environmentally ethical business operations. To drive meaningful progress in global climate action, CTCN remains committed to supporting developing countries in their efforts to achieve business and industry transformation through climate technology innovation and transfer. Bangkok transforms its flood resilience with cutting-edge technology and strategic planning! Teaming up with CTCN back in 2016, the city tackles urban flooding challenges head-on, the collaboration that led to the development of an advanced flood early warning system for the Sukhumvit area, significantly enhancing the city's flood resilience. CTCN's support included creating a strategic adaptation framework focused on effective land-use planning and zoning, aiming to manage climate risks and integrate climate adaptation into Bangkok's development plans. The initiative also introduced advanced technology and training to Bangkok's flood management efforts, involving updating hydraulic models for accurate flood scenario analysis, establishing a cloud-based data management system, and providing hands-on training for Bangkok Metropolitan Administration staff in advanced hydraulic and forecasting modeling. 👀 Learn more: https://bit.ly/44kfyEF UN Environment Programme, UN Climate Change, Fred Onduri, Dr Stephen Minas, Jonathan Duwyn.

Facilitating cooperation for RD&D in green hydrogen production between Korean institutes and NDE-affiliated institutions in the Asia and the Pacific! 🤝 Nine participants took part in an exchange learning visit to the Korea Institute of Energy Research in Daejeon and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology in Seoul. This exchange aimed at building RD&D and the endogenous capacity in green hydrogen production of Asia-Pacific researchers and institutes to contribute to implementing NDCs and the Paris Agreement. The program helped figure out ongoing RD&D activities and regulatory framework and supporting facilities for green hydrogen production and identify future potential opportunities for South-South RD&D collaboration including capacity building, co-funding, and project scale-ups. Researchers pinpointed major gaps in target areas by implementing learning visits and proposed the following activities in RD&D of green hydrogen production. The participants will exchange concept proposals and continue reciprocal ideation for collaboration with the pertinent institutions.
