    This is what we mean when we say that Molten Salt Reactors using thorium is a groundbreaking new technology that can radically disrupt the present #energy mix. The energy density in #nuclear material is so much higher than that of any hydrocarbon that it is unimaginable to the human mind. You might get the idea from the amination below. Copenhagen Atomic’s thorium reactor, which has only the footprint of a 40-foot shipping container, can generate 100 MW of thermal energy. That’s the equivalent of around five of the largest onshore windmills in the world… If the wind was constantly blowing at the optimal speed When our production has been scaled up, we will be able to deliver #cleanenergy at LCoE = $20 / MWh, which is significantly cheaper than any other technology.     Copenhagen Atomics has been awarded a grant from the Innovation Fund Denmark to optimise #energyefficiency It is not only on molten salt and nuclear technology that Copenhagen Atomics supports technological development. In order to heat the salt for our test loops and reactor prototypes, we use vast amounts of #electricity. With this project, we seek to become more efficient in our energy usage, consuming electricity at times when there is a surplus in the grid. Additionally, we have the capability to quickly reduce our energy usage, which allows us to provide balancing services to the power grid. This flexibility is vital for supporting the #renewableenergy based grid in Denmark. Our ongoing project aims to develop intelligent systems that manage these processes effectively, contributing to more stable and efficient #energy consumption.

    Copenhagen Atomics has successfully delivered a large batch of highly purified salt to Abilene Christian University’s Nuclear Energy eXperimental Testing Laboratory (NEXT Lab) In late May, CA delivered highly purified salt to NEXT Lab, and a 250-kilogram test batch was transferred into ACU’s #moltensalt test system, an experimental system designed to circulate over 50 gallons of melted fluoride salt. Highly purified salts are essential to avoid corrosion when operating at extremely high temperatures. The partnership has spanned over five years and highlights the synergy and shared vision between the two entities to bring this groundbreaking #energy solution to the market.

    This might just be the most crucial milestone yet for Copenhagen Atomics! We are pleased to announce a significant collaboration with the renowned PSI Paul Scherrer Institut in Switzerland to conduct a critical experiment expected to run at 1 MW. Scheduled for 2026-27, the critical experiment at PSI's facilities will be a first in European history. Why is this experiment so crucial? It’s simple: validation and proof. At Copenhagen Atomics, we’ve spent nearly a decade perfecting our #thorium molten salt reactors, and now, we are ready to test them in a real-world setting. The data and insights gained from this experiment will confirm the accuracy of our reactor design and simulations, moving us closer to commercial deployment.

    We are standing on the shoulders of giants, particularly Alvin Weinberg, who ran the molten salt reactor experiment in the 1960s. While many may think creating a #moltensalt system that pumps 700 degrees hot salt continuously around for 6000 hours seems simple, it actually isn’t. At Copenhagen Atomics, we are immensely proud to have built several reliable systems for molten salt testing, including full-scale reactor #prototypes. Before we can test a full scale #reactor with criticality, it is imperative that we have built and tested all components enough times that we can show it can run reliably with the same result every time. Therefore, having a test loop running cumulatively for three-quarters of a year is a great start for us. The next major milestones will be the 1MW test reactor in 2026 and the first-of-a-kind commercial reactor in 2028.

    Once again Copenhagen Atomics presents at the Thorium Energy Alliance Conference! This year hosted in Abilene, Texas, the conference touched upon the topics of thorium, critical materials, and the future of #energy. Our Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board, Thomas Jam Pedersen, presented the status of Copenhagen Atomics, while also including the topics of thorium, our reactor design, a comparison to classical #nuclear, and much more.     We are pleased to collaborate with ŚGP INDUSTRIA S.A. on full-cycle fuel utilisation in Poland. Industria’s engagement in the #nuclearenergy sector is the pursuit of a closed-loop economy through waste reduction. Industria carries out uranium mining operations in Poland, whilst energy production from this uranium is executed by an #SMR vendor based on classical light water reactors. Thus, a significant amount of unused fuel or 'waste' is produced. Copenhagen Atomics can utilise this unused #nuclear fuel to produce much more energy from it and is, therefore, a complementary technology to close the loop. We are happy to have been identified by Industria as a very mature and promising project partner.

    💡Innovation takes a very long time! .. and #innovating a molten salt reactor for assembly line manufacturing, is no exception. We're constantly refining our processes with many iterations to every component, piece of software and test system that we produce. Take our molten salt loop, for instance. For every iteration a new design is drawn in CAD Software, it is built, tested, redesigned and so on. We're proud early adopters of Onshape, a PTC Technology's CAD software, which enables us to draw the future of global #energy and make it a reality. Thanks to Daniela Riccio, Paul Simon, and Steve Mahoney from Onshape for visiting our site in Copenhagen. We're looking forward to seeing Onshape achieve world domination in CAD tools.

    Here is a fact about Easter you might not know 🐣 A staggering 180 million eggs are purchased for Easter every year. If an average sized egg was made out of thorium that would be enough fuel to #power approximately a million people during Easter. Imagine if all those Easter eggs purchased was made of thorium. #CleanEnergy for 180.000 Billion people during Easter. Thorium holds a great potential. At Copenhagen Atomics we are building a molten salt breeder reactor to unlock this potential. Happy Easter to all of you from all of us!
