Europe is falling behind and we need to shift gears. That’s why I welcome Mr Draghi’s report today and his call for a new industrial strategy for Europe, focusing on the reasons behind the EU’s lack of competitiveness and – more importantly – what we can do to fix it. We’ve known for some time that productivity in the EU is lagging behind other key markets, contributing to a decline in competitiveness. When you look at the Critical Technology Tracker compiled by the Australian ASPI think-tank, out of 44 so-called critical technologies, Europe is not a leader in a single one. The Draghi report also rightly points out that EU companies still face electricity prices that are 2-3 times those in the US and that natural gas prices paid are 4-5 times higher. This impacts production costs, and thereby also competitiveness. Part of the answer is a stronger focus on investing in innovation and Competitive Decarbonization. That is decarbonizing industries while making them more resilient and increasing economic competitiveness. I see a lot of momentum among industry leaders, and European companies have enormous potential if we get the right political framework and double down on energy efficiency, electrification and renewables. What I am calling for is an active, forward-looking industrial policy, which has a focus on implementation and follow-up that can create growth. Only by working together can we turn this around, ensure Europe takes a leading position in key sectors, and create high-quality jobs. We echo Kasper Elbjørn's sentiments and extend our special congratulations to Professor Teresa Ribera Rodríguez, Stéphane Séjourné, Wopke Hoekstra, and our own Dan Jørgensen. As Kasper rightly points out, "The connections between industrial, energy, and climate policies are more important than ever." European industries, especially energy-intensive ones, face significant challenges with high energy costs threatening our competitiveness. Mario Draghi’s Competitiveness Report highlights critical steps toward a stronger, more secure Europe, particularly the coupling of decarbonization with competitiveness. The connections between industrial, energy, and climate policies are more important than ever. European industries, especially energy-intensive ones, face significant challenges as high energy costs - exacerbated by geopolitical events - threaten our competitiveness. Europe needs you! There is a great deal to do, and several proposed measures in Mario Draghi’s Competitiveness Report, released last week, point the way forward. Particularly the coupling of decarbonization with competitiveness, a joint Clean Industrial Deal, increased investments in R&D, and a more coordinated, less complicated regulatory framework are critical steps toward a stronger, more secure Europe. Recently, colleagues from Danfoss Poland and their families united for the 15th annual Danfoss Run, raising a record-breaking €26,000 for children in need. There was an inspiring turnout of 445 participants running 1,190 kilometers, demonstrating the incredible passion of our people to make a positive impact. Since its inception, the Danfoss Run has raised over €210,000, aiding approximately 150 charity initiatives dedicated to health needs, sports, and educational projects for children.
